That's exactly where I'm heading. While my Kennedy line left Wexford early,,1807.. the story goes..2windjammers with two KENNEDY families left Rosslare Feb. 1807 for New Bedford MASS. The birth of a newborn son to Captain Nicholas Kennedy and Grace Young brought the first ship to put in at a Newfoundland port where the family settled near Harbor Grace, Carbonear at Conception Bay. The second ship went on and made it to Newburyport/Cape Cod in Mass. We believe these Kennedy Mariners continued to work along the North Atlantic coast as fisherman and of course much latter as transporters of prohibited cargo. A nice way of saying "bootleggers" Anyway, these Kennedy's were RC and the Newfoundland branch emigrated to Brooklyn in the early 1900s. I don't think it was just chance that the first ship put in at NFLD. they settled with Kennedy's who had been there prior to the 1790s. In addition, family lore contends that it was the 1798 Wolfe Tone uprising which led to the 1800 Kennedy emigration. Although it has also been said that there was nothing "infamous" about this branch other than they were extremely hard-working fisher folk. Nicholas, Terrance, William, and John are the preeminet names in this line as well as Patrick and Francis with almost every middle name Joseph. I believe their father (GF) or Uncle in Newfoundland (died 1790s) was Edward (Edmund) Kennedy. >>>> Have you considered a connection to John F. Kennedy's family---they were from Wexford and now there is an area to be visited with the place where they lived---only a little cottage, but--Kennedy/Wexford...you never know! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joanne" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, July 02, 2002 1:02 PM Subject: [WAT] RE:Kennedy/ Clashmore
