Just reposting my interests in the McCarthy family from Tallow, Co Waterford. My great grandfather was James McCarthy who married Bridget Hankard. They had 6 children, Patrick, James and John (all three came over to South Wales after the First World War), Bridget and Molly who never married and remained in the family home in Barrack Street, Tallow, until they died in the 1970s, and Maurice who was killed in an accident when he was young. If anyone knows anything about this family I would appreciate any information as I have been unable to trace any further back, or I would appreciate any suggestions on how/where I can find any information. James was a runner and won some medals in the later 1800s. Hankard is an unusual name and would love to know more about it's origins. My grandfather Patrick fought in the First World War in the South Irish Horse Brigade. I would like to know if James had any brothers/sisters (I believe there were and one of them may have emigrated to the USA or, maybe a cousin did) and I would like to know more about Bridget Hankar! d's family.
