Have just had some info which might help us sort out SLANEY/SLYNEY - I know I had a couple of answers to my query on this list. Apparently spelling used in IRL was SLINEY. But I have used SLYNEY throughout to save my poor head! John SLYNEY, farmer of Dungarvan, IRL and Mary MOUNTAIN ere parents of my first SLYNEY in Australia, John SLYNEY. Dungarvan Catholic baptismal records for 1812-1832 show John and Mary (Ellen) had 4 children - Thomas, bap 1817, Brigid, bap 1821, Bridget, bap 1826 and David, bap 1830. No marriage seen for John and Mary but bap records show place of abode as Coolnagour, a farming area about 3 miles south-west of Dungarvan, Co Waterford, IRL. Seems Thomas was later called John, my first in Aus John SLINEY and Mary MANSFIELD were married in Church of the Assumption (now known as St Mary's) Dungarvan, 9 Jun 1839. Witnesses were Thomas Mansfield and Mary (Margaret) Christopher. On Aus immigration records, 1839 John shown as Ploughman, Mary Farm Servant. Do these details help with connection to any of those who answered my queries on this list earlier? Would love to hear from you again. Alice.
