    1. Re: [WATERFORD] Waterford records online
    2. Looks like they didn't make the Sept. 30th goal of getting the records on line. Goofs! -----Original Message----- From: Sandra J Hawley <sanj@centurytel.net> To: waterford <waterford@rootsweb.com> Sent: Fri, Sep 30, 2011 3:59 pm Subject: Re: [WATERFORD] Waterford records online Hi, I just wanted to mention my experience with the Waterford Heritage ociety. As my family lived in the Newcastle Parish area I knew that aterford was where the records would be held. I knew of the Newcastle arish because of a Wisconsin church death record for a brother of my gg randfather which indicated birth places for both of his parents in Co ipperary. I decided to have Waterford do a search for me. I gave them all the nformation I had, and they found baptismal records for 11 of 13 hildren of my ggg grandparents, and a marriage record for one of the hildren that I don't think was correct as they were in the US by that ime, as well as a few other small nuggets of information. The cost was 200 which was a lot, but now I have the actual baptismal dates. My gg randfather's headstone in Wisconsin says that he was born in 1830, owever, his baptismal date was 2 Jan 1823 which means he was born robably in Dec 1822. But with so many records online and coming online, it may be worth it to ait. Waterford looked for the names of the children born with the ames of my ggg grandparents. If any website allows a search that ncludes parents names, that would eliminate most that one would not be f interest. If I had searched for my gg grandfather's birth in 1830 as n the headstone, I might have ignored the 1822 date and never found him. So I have found my ancestors in Ireland and in Wisconsin, but nothing in Y where they lived for probably 5 years plus or minus. All in all, I feel that it was worth it to use Waterford. But would I o it again today, maybe. Good luck, andy On 9/30/2011 1:08 AM, Janet Crawford wrote: Janet, I see that you are quite upset about the records, something which we have been complaining for years now. I don't think the IFHF records are on-line just yet, but maybe a day or two away - at least I haven't received notice yet that they are live. Have I missed something? Since the Archbishop of Cashel& Emly oversees Waterford, we may only see the civil records and the C of I records, but we will have to wait and see. Waterford Heritage maybe does need to be a bit more polite and helpful, but when I finally decided to use them for my own family, they did do a thorough job as far as I can tell and I did ask follow-up questions to clarify a few things. Yes, they are expensive compared to others, but it is still the least expensive and fastest way to get information...although coming over to Ireland is the best way. There are more than one. All I can see on this site is the year, ame and county which makes it impossible to search without paying what I onsider huge ppv costs. I think the Diocese of Waterford has a responsibility o make these records more accessible. They sent me a quote for an entire amily search only at approximately 100 euros and I could take it or leave it or erhaps I would prefer to wait for them to be online. I suspected from the tone f the e-mail that something was up and then I saw the costs. Basically what it aid was if you don't like it lady wait till you see what they charge online. I as right. I think it is terrible to charge so much and then be rude. I wrote he Diocese of Waterford and they remained WHOLLY unresponsive. I wrote 2 imes. I think > they sold those BMD records to a PPV site. They could just as easily have ade them available elsewhere for free. They did not. Instead they show up on his site which charges $40.00 to look at 8 records. This is not a solution. very county in the USA wants $40 every time you need a record. The Catholic hurch in this country charges nothing but a donation and that is how it should e. That Diocese is a trustee of records that belong to others. They had no roblem turning them over the any government official who thought they could use hem but they refuse to provide them to the people/families they belong to. lso, beware the researchers the Diocese of Waterford have linked on their ebsite. They claim you pay for the research and may not get anything. This is sual in genealogy but if you have a problem with those people no one takes esponsibility for them. There is no supervision/accountability. I would never llow someone > who wrote the e-mails to me that they did have my bankcard number. > > > So, I keep seeing this information that the Waterford records are available nline. It is less expensive to use the researchers the Diocese of Waterford ave decided they like. I would look at 8 records easily when researching a amily. I have actually wondered if the persons who own this site are the ones aking such a big deal about it. > > > > ________________________________ > From: "cdynan@rcn.com"<cdynan@rcn.com> > To: waterford@rootsweb.com > Sent: Thursday, September 29, 2011 6:16 AM > Subject: [WATERFORD] Waterford records online > > Hello listers, > I emailed Waterford herotage site a month agao inquiring about this, nd receievd a reply that indeed, the Waterford records are being prepared for nclusion into the rootsireland site. > Cheryl Dynan > Please double-check subject line& snip your messages when replying. > > Please search the Archives of this list for your surnames at ttp://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index?list=waterford > > ------------------------------------- > The Ireland GenWeb County Waterford website is up for adoption.
