Janet, I see that you are quite upset about the records, something which we have been complaining for years now. I don't think the IFHF records are on-line just yet, but maybe a day or two away - at least I haven't received notice yet that they are live. Have I missed something? Since the Archbishop of Cashel & Emly oversees Waterford, we may only see the civil records and the C of I records, but we will have to wait and see. Waterford Heritage maybe does need to be a bit more polite and helpful, but when I finally decided to use them for my own family, they did do a thorough job as far as I can tell and I did ask follow-up questions to clarify a few things. Yes, they are expensive compared to others, but it is still the least expensive and fastest way to get information...although coming over to Ireland is the best way. Instead they show up on this site which charges $40.00 to look at 8 records. This is not a solution. Every county in the USA wants $40 every time you need a record. The Catholic Church in this country charges nothing but a donation and that is how it should be. That Diocese is a trustee of records that belong to others. They had no problem turning them over the any government official who thought they could use them but they refuse to provide them to the people/families they belong to. Also, beware the researchers the Diocese of Waterford have linked on their website. They claim you pay for the research and may not get anything. This is usual in genealogy but if you have a problem with those people no one takes responsibility for them. There is no supervision/accountability. Hi, I just wanted to mention my experience with the Waterford Heritage Society. As my family lived in the Newcastle Parish area I knew that Waterford was where the records would be held. I knew of the Newcastle Parish because of a Wisconsin church death record for a brother of my gg grandfather which indicated birth places for both of his parents in Co Tipperary. I decided to have Waterford do a search for me. I gave them all the information I had, and they found baptismal records for 11 of 13 children of my ggg grandparents, and a marriage record for one of the children that I don't think was correct as they were in the US by that time, as well as a few other small nuggets of information. The cost was $200 which was a lot, but now I have the actual baptismal dates. My gg grandfather's headstone in Wisconsin says that he was born in 1830, however, his baptismal date was 2 Jan 1823 which means he was born probably in Dec 1822. But with so many records online and coming online, it may be worth it to wait. Waterford looked for the names of the children born with the names of my ggg grandparents. If any website allows a search that includes parents names, that would eliminate most that one would not be of interest. If I had searched for my gg grandfather's birth in 1830 as on the headstone, I might have ignored the 1822 date and never found him. So I have found my ancestors in Ireland and in Wisconsin, but nothing in NY where they lived for probably 5 years plus or minus. All in all, I feel that it was worth it to use Waterford. But would I do it again today, maybe. Good luck, Sandy On 9/30/2011 1:08 AM, Janet Crawford wrote: > Janet, I see that you are quite upset about the records, something > which we have been complaining for years now.
