Hello listers, I emailed Waterford herotage site a month agao inquiring about this, and receievd a reply that indeed, the Waterford records are being prepared for inclusion into the rootsireland site. Cheryl Dynan
Although it's nice to have a general reference this is still very expensive. For example, I am looking for a Thomas Phelan born 1844 at Carrick On Suir, Tipperary. There are more than one. All I can see on this site is the year, name and county which makes it impossible to search without paying what I consider huge ppv costs. I think the Diocese of Waterford has a responsibility to make these records more accessible. They sent me a quote for an entire family search only at approximately 100 euros and I could take it or leave it or perhaps I would prefer to wait for them to be online. I suspected from the tone of the e-mail that something was up and then I saw the costs. Basically what it said was if you don't like it lady wait till you see what they charge online. I was right. I think it is terrible to charge so much and then be rude. I wrote the Diocese of Waterford and they remained WHOLLY unresponsive. I wrote 2 times. I think they sold those BMD records to a PPV site. They could just as easily have made them available elsewhere for free. They did not. Instead they show up on this site which charges $40.00 to look at 8 records. This is not a solution. Every county in the USA wants $40 every time you need a record. The Catholic Church in this country charges nothing but a donation and that is how it should be. That Diocese is a trustee of records that belong to others. They had no problem turning them over the any government official who thought they could use them but they refuse to provide them to the people/families they belong to. Also, beware the researchers the Diocese of Waterford have linked on their website. They claim you pay for the research and may not get anything. This is usual in genealogy but if you have a problem with those people no one takes responsibility for them. There is no supervision/accountability. I would never allow someone who wrote the e-mails to me that they did have my bankcard number. So, I keep seeing this information that the Waterford records are available online. It is less expensive to use the researchers the Diocese of Waterford have decided they like. I would look at 8 records easily when researching a family. I have actually wondered if the persons who own this site are the ones making such a big deal about it. ________________________________ From: "cdynan@rcn.com" <cdynan@rcn.com> To: waterford@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, September 29, 2011 6:16 AM Subject: [WATERFORD] Waterford records online Hello listers, I emailed Waterford herotage site a month agao inquiring about this, and receievd a reply that indeed, the Waterford records are being prepared for inclusion into the rootsireland site.
