    3. Hello to all, I'm new to the list and am searching for Crawfords. One of my 3x great-grandfathers, William Crawford, came from Kilmacow (only a few miles from Waterford City, in Kilkenny). He enlisted in the British Army in 1815. His regiment (the 68th) was sent to Canada in 1818, and when it returned to Ireland in 1829 he and his family remained in Quebec. William's father may have been John Crawford, who came to an unhappy end in the 'serious incident' of 1793 in Wexford. William's wife was Elizabeth Birch/Byrch, who may have been baptised in Clonmel, South Tipperary, in 1796. I have thoroughly researched this couple on this side of the pond. One or the other brought a peat stove made in Waterford to Canada (Elizabeth and children, William and Henry, followed the 68th to Quebec in 1819). I'm now looking now for 'leads' in Ireland. Since I'm planning a research trip there in September, I would welcome suggestions as to helpful spots to visit in the area of Waterford City.
