Recently I spent several days trawling through the NY Herald Statesman thanks to the web site of Fulton Postcards and I discovered a wealth of information. A kind gentleman went along to St. Joseph's Cemetery and photographed the burial place of Lawrence and his wife and son, but there is no headstone. I have the info on his four daughters but there is one son (Lawrence Jr.) missing. The family appears in the 1930 US Census under LUBEY but he gives his birth place as Northern Ireland ??. His wife appears to have been only 14 years when she emigrated and 16 when she married?? I am still hunting. He had two brothers who came to the USA ahead of him, one of whom was in the furniture business in Kentucky. Thomas arrived in Chicago from Waterford about 1888-1889, was hired immediately to work on the Chicago streetcars, later became head of the streetcar motormen's union. When the streetcars moved north he moved to Edgewater and then to the Ridge/Lunt area of Rogers Park. Among his friends from Waterford was an attorney named Slattery. Thomas died in Chicago in 1943. He married Julia Clare Callaghan (born in Bloomington, IL ca. 1873) in Chicago in June 1891. Her father was Jeremiah Callaghan from Kanturk, County Cork, and her mother was Mary Fitzgerald. Their surviving children included Vincent, Thomas, Agnes (Sr. M. Thos. Aquinas, BVM), Marcella, Beatrice, Vivian, Frances, and Winifred (Sr. Mary Julia Clare, BVM). Julia died in Chicago in 1932. I seek information on these McGrath and Greene families and their ancestors in Waterford, as well as living relatives with whom to share. ------------------------------- Researching: Costello (Galway and Mayo), Cotter, Durcan/Durkin, Higgins, Kelly, Lynch, McCarthy, Raftree/Raftery (Galway), Shannon, Sullivan, Welsh, Amacher, Baur, Bove, Cremer, Ehlen, Fischer, Gansberg (Bremen), Giefer, Hamacher, Hense/Henseler, Hofmann/Hoeffeler, Jackler/Jackelen, Jaegers, Koch, Kratz, Krebs, Morlot/Morlo/Morloh, Mueller/Meller, Mertes, Pick, Reetz, Rheinges, Reichardt/Reichert, Rick, Schmieden, Seitz/Zeidt, vonAlleman/Vollerman, vonMeer, Weiskopf, Zens, Albright, Compton, Corselius (PA>IA), Clemens/Clements (OH>MO), Daly/Daily (Galway), Derrick (Roscommon), Desponit/Dispennett, Early, Fallon (Galway), Greene (Waterford), Callaghan (Cork), Fitzgerald, McCarthy, McGrath (Waterford), McSweeney (Galway/Roscommon), Moss, Mullenix/Mullinax, Prichard, Reilly/O'Reilly (Galway, Roscommon), Shelly (PA), Shook (PA), Tye. ------------------------------ Message: 6 Date: Wed, 22 Jun 2011 14:13:54 -0400 From: johnvgeary@cs.com Subject: Re: [WATERFORD] Rollcall- GEARY/GUIRY/GIREY To: waterford@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <8CDFF1F47D6450D-2C14-E0B5@webmail-m138.sysops.aol.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" I am researching the GEARY/GUIRY/GIREY family from Ardmore. Also, the library has a wonderful online resource at http://www.nutrias.org/~nopl/guides/genguide/gguide4.htm. If you find any of your ancestors on those sites and need help in learning more, let me know.
