    3. I know I read a mail where a person is researching this family name, in Waterford, but when I went looking could not find it. Now my question is how would you sort all the Phelan's out ? I have never seen so many with that name as I have seen in Waterford. Now what records are to be included from what parishes on Waterford? does anyone have an update on that, because I am about to look at Ballybricken parish register for Waterford, and will hold off offering to look for anyone elses people, if this is to be one of those appearing online. Any help folk Cara

    3. Hi Cara, This is the message currently on the IFHF website: "The Co. Waterford data is in the final stages of testing. It will be live before the end of September 2011. We will send an email to all customers once this is ready. For further information please contact: e-mail mnoc@iol.ie " So far no e-mail saying they are live. Yes, Waterford/Kilkenny/So. Tipp is the ancient home of the Phelan's. Please note, Cara, that Whelan is another form of the name as well. 3. Hi Cara, I might be the person you're thinking of re PHELAN/WHELAN from Trinity Without, Ballybricken - sent you headstone photos and other data collected when there in 2003. Marriage of my Ggrandparents: Holy Trinity Without Parish (Ballybricken) Church record of the Marriage PHELAN James; Wife: DALY Mary A. 1 SEP 1866 Witnesses: GRIFFIN John FLEMING Catherine Marriage Register: M/1843-74 P. 103 Husband's Parents : Wife's Parents : Parish: Ballybricken Priest: MCGRATH Thomas Addresses: Barrack Street Barrack Street Civil Registration Record of the marriage HUS.NAME: PHELAN James Occupation: Baker Hus.Address: Yellow Road Condition: Bachelor Age : FA Hus.Parents: PHELAN John Par Occup.: Miller Wife Name: DALY MaryAnne Wife Occupation: Dressmaker Wi.Address: Barrack St Condition: Spinster Age : FA Wi. Parents: DALY John Par. Ocup.: Salter (corrected fm Slater) Witnesses: GRIFFIN John; FLEMMING Catherine Mar.Place: TRINITY WITHOUT Union : WATERFORD Officiator: MCGRATH Thomas Mar.Date: 1 SEP 1866 Registrar: District : WATERFORD Reg.Date: Register : NO 1 URBAN :33 Children of James PHELAN/WHELAN / Mary Anne DALY (yes, some baptisms are dated before the births): Note: WHELAN in civil records; PHELAN in church records Born/PHELAN/ Bap/WHELAN 1867 Aug 17 18 Aug 1867 Mary Margaret (my grandmother) 1869 Nov 01 31 Oct 1867 Catherine 1871 Apr 10 12 Mar 1867 Anastasia 1872 Aug 08 26 Jul 1872 Bridget 14 Dec 1873 Julia (baptismal date; birth not found) 1875 Apr 27 02 May 1875 John Now suspect there may be another daughter, Stella, b abt 1878. Based on half guessing and scribbled family notes, so not certain. ALL of Margaret's records in the US (1895 marriage, Boston, MA - 1952 death, Cambridge, MA) are as WHALEN! No two items have the same age - all younger than 1867. Reallllly would like to find the birth of her parents, particularly her father, James. I know he was also in the US, but have never found him in the US Censuses (should be in 1900, maybe 1910; have his photo on my wall). As he married 1866, his birth would be before civil registration. I had Margaret's name and the names of her parents - and suspected Waterford City (do have one photo taken at the quay). Local research did find the marriage and births/baptisms of the children (flat rate €82). When I asked about seeking the births of the parents (2003) told it would be DOUBLE the original cost for EACH of the two births. I was told (by a helpful person in the tourist office) of a city registry office (in a medical facility, not far from the Waterford factory). I was very kindly allowed to look through the original books; found the civil entries, which they did photocopy for me. I found no deaths of her mother or the children. Since then I 'may' have found evidence (MA vital records) that some of the sisters were also in Boston/Cambridge, but nothing for certain. Will save this story for a separate missive.
