That is baptismal records, not certificates. I got these records first from Waterford Heritage Center and then directly from the original books held in Newcastle Parish. And I found out the parish from one of Michael Hally and Catherine English's children's death record in Wisconsin where it told where the parents were born. Our family had a Thomas Francis GREENE and Margaret McGRATH who raised their family on a farm said to be adjacent to Mt. Melleray in Waterford. Their son Thomas came to Chicago ca.1888 and it is said that the family farm was given to the monks at Mt. Melleray. Or the cynic asks: were these in-laws merely tenant farmers of the Abbey? Does anyone have any information about the traditions of the monks' farm lands? Sandra, would you think that the Newcastle RC Parish would have encompassed ALL the lands surrounding Mt. Melleray? Also, young Tommy Greene had a job on the Chicago trolleys awaiting him here. So there must have been folks from the Mt. Mellary area of Waterford, perhaps from Newcastle Parish, who got to Chicago ahead of him, and were in position to be plotting and arranging things for him. He lived first on the near south side, later in the far north Rogers Park neighborhood. He was married to Julia Claire CALLAHAN at Holy Family RC Parish in Chicago in June 1891. He became president of the motorman's union and his best friend seems to have been the attorney for the union named SLATTERY, who later became a US Senator for Illinois for a partial term, by appointment. Perhaps another person from Waterford. Tommy Greene apparently had two brothers who preceded him to the US -- one living in Kentucky and in the furniture business ca. 1888 and the other unknown to me. If you have any helpful ideas or information relating to persons, places or questions raised above, I'd be delighted to hear from you! I got these records first from Waterford Heritage Center and then directly from the original books held in Newcastle Parish. I have baptismal certificates for 11 of 13 of Michael Hally b (about 1790) and Catherine English's (b about 1800) children starting in 1816 and ending in 1834, all in Newcastle Parish, Aughavanlomaun Townland. But there were two children I can not find, Patrick and William. William is said to have remained in Ireland. But they were very close to Mt Mellerary and I know that the Powers lived near there. Michael Power married Ellen Hally b 1816 - they emigrated to NY and then to WI by 1855. I am thinking that perhaps some of the others who married into were from the Mt Mellerary area and am just trying to see if there is anything to my conjecture. It is difficult to know exactly how much information to include in a query and not have too much. We visited Mt Mellerary as well as the church in Newcastle and met a number of people in the area. There is an old cottage ruin between Mt. Mellerary and the Co Tipperary border that is called "Hally's Garden". It is likely an ancestor's spot, but I am not sure that I can prove it. There are a number of Hally's listed in Griffith's Valuation.
