    1. [WATERFORD] Important Admin message - re AOL & others
    2. Janet Crawford
    3. Every Rootsweb list has had massive unsubscribes for AOL users, including this CoTipperary one. Folks, they aren't here anymore and there is no sense putting them back on only to have them unsubbed again. This is all AOL's problem, not Rootsweb's at all, and until AOL fixes whatever it is, there is nothing Rootsweb nor I can do about it. We lost the single subbers first and today all the AOL digest users are gone because Rootsweb's computers will only take so many bounces [unable to deliver to this AOL user] before it unsubs the person. There is no hint that AOL can fix their problems, or at least not anytime soon. I am going to write to all these people later today and ask them to consider using another service, like gmail, so we can get them back on the list getting messages. AOL claims that this started November 1st, but I know for a fact that Carmen has been having problems with his AOL mail since Spring. I wanted to post this here so you all know that if you want to contact someone re a message and they are an AOL user, you will have to do it directly with little chance of your message getting to them. When I write to them later, the same will be true - they may not get my message either, so I want this in the Archives so they can read this there as a last resort. It appears that if they are in their e-mail account when a message comes in, they will get it; otherwise not or not always. It is quite random. Since Yahoo and Comcast and Hotmail have also had [hacking] problems, please consider setting up a Google mail account just for Rootsweb as their system seems to be immune from hacking and not prone to crazy programming problems. They also have a terrific spam program that really works. If or when you do switch services, you will have to go to the home page here http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/IRL/CoTipperary.html to unsub under the old address and also to sub under the new one. Anyone having problems, I will be happy to help. Janet

    3. Janet Thank you for posting this. I am the admin of the Co. Kerry list and a member of a couple of other lists that probably have no clue as to what is going on. If you have no objections, I'm going to lightly revise your post and send it on to others. Do the AOL subscribers get the "you have been unsubscribed" message from Rootsweb? it's good to know that the second batch of unsubscribes that I got today is probably the digest subscribers. I'll have to contact one of them to verify that before I send out a message. I have been copying the unsubbed addresses so I should be able to send out only two messages. Thank you again. 3. Ray you don't have to copy them as gmail gives them all to you in one place and you can just e-mail them by clicking on their addy in the bounce. Much easier when you have so many to do. I have no idea if they each got an unsubscribe message or not. I would guess not. If AOL is as messed up as I think it is, then they may not be getting our individual messages either, which is why I also posted it on the list. Carmen said he would get his mail if he was in his mail program, and if he was not the messages never get to him. He would see that he had messages, but when he went in to get them, they were not there and gone off his pending. Yes, you can use my message. This is going to apply to every Rootsweb list. An AOL user could sub back in and use Digest format for messages and hold on a little longer, but until and if AOL fixes this, it would only be only a stalling measure.
