Hi Sandy, Not aware of any such records but aletter to the Bursar in the Abbey should yield some results. The monks were very good at keeping records - they have an extensive library Regards, Tony Mc Carthy > Message: 2 > Date: Tue, 05 Jan 2010 10:24:29 -0800 > From: Sanj <sanj@centurytel.net> > Subject: [WATERFORD] census records of Mt Mellerary area > To: waterford@rootsweb.com > Message-ID: 4B4383DD.7080204@centurytel.net> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed > > Hello, > Are there any pre 1900 census records of the Mt Mellerary Abbey are > that > are available online? > Thanks, > Sandy > > > ------------------------------ > > To contact the WATERFORD list administrator, send an email to > WATERFORD-admin@rootsweb.com. > > To post a message to the WATERFORD mailing list, send an email to > WATERFORD@rootsweb.com. > > __________________________________________________________ > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > WATERFORD-request@rootsweb.com > with the word "unsubscribe" without the quotes in the subject and the > body of the > email with no additional text. > > > End of WATERFORD Digest, Vol 5, Issue 6 > *************************************** -- Tony Mc Carthy

Hello, Are there any pre 1900 census records of the Mt Mellerary Abbey are that are available online? Thanks, Sandy
Directly? Not that I know of yet. I am tracking Gardner of Waterford. There was a Commander John Anthony Gardner who came and went from Waterford and his father was Commander Francis Geary Gardner. The three families (Gardner, Geary & Anthony) are sort of together in Waterford and Hampshire. I have run out of clues on Gardner c. 1800 and looking at the other 2 families to see what clues might be there. If you can't get at something head on, try from the side. Hi Cara, Otho Hamilton is indeed an unusual name, it has been used for many generations in my family, a family of musicians, piano teachers, and musical instrument makers. I believe that we are decended from the Otho who was Governor of Placentia, he was a son of the Olivestob Hamilton's of Edinburgh. Many years of research point to this being the case however I have not been able to prove the parentage of the John Hamilton found on the 1821 census, in so much as I have not found any record of his birth. I made a visit to Waterford last year and spent a couple of hours in the city archives, the archivist Mr Donal Moore was very helpful. He was able to tell me that Governor Otho bequethed to his three grandsons property in Stevens Street, my known documented ancestor John was certainly living there in 1821, however John was not one of the named three grandsons, so the illusive link I require cannot be made for an absolute certainty. It is possible my John was another of Otho's grandsons, family hearsay has always been that we originated from Edinburgh and found our way to Waterford, this would tie in with the Olivestob connection, the Hamilton family home, once called Olivestob (still standing, but now known as Bankton House) where governor Otho was born is in Edinburgh. I have been looking for the answer for the last 5 years, I have even submitted my brothers dna to the Hamilton DNA project, one day a proven ancestor of Governor Otho may also submit their dna which may match with my brothers, this would prove the connection - however even without proof it would be remarkable given all the research I have done plus the documents that I do have if we were not of the same family. During my years of research I have made many notes regarding Waterford and gathered lots of information, obviously mostly regarding my own family names, I am more than happy to share any information if would help others in their quest to trace family.
