It is a great introduction to our museum. You can view the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HHLOI5AvRU We would be delighted to get your views and thoughts on the video. Please feel free to leave your comments. In common with nearly all of our projects no one got any pay for their participation. The video was created in partnership with Dungarvan Dramatic Club. If anyone wants to do a little bit of historical sleuthing for us, we have a lot of unidentified people and unknown places. 3. There are a couple of possibilities for your search. The Waterford County Library Website has both Griffiths and Death Registers. See <http://www.waterfordcountylibrary.ie/en/familyhistory/>. If the library provides useful information, you might think about using The Waterford Heritage Center, which does genealogical research. They are an excellent resource - they don't take on searches unless they think it will be worthwhile for you. See <http://www.iol.ie/~mnoc/>. Good hunting, Dave Collins Hudson, MA, USA

    3. No, Helen, I didn't miss out on shopping as I made it into the book stores looking for books on Waterford. Unfortunately the three I would have wanted were waaaay beyond my current budget. 3. I thought I might tell you a little about Saturday's Senior Citizen's trip and offer a few other bits. We had 64 people signed up for the trip, and a great deal at 25 Euro per person. We took off from Lattin, Co. Tipperary and went first to a tearoom at a fab plant nursery in Clonmel and had morning tea and scones - very nice scones. We got to meander among the flowers for a while and then left for Dunmore East on the other side of Waterford. Tramore is the next place over on the coast and I had been there twice before, so Dunmore East was a nice change, and a very nice place it is with more going on than in Tramore. We had lunch at The Strand with a choice of roast beef, seafood pie or Lemon Sole. Everyone raved about the choice they had made. I had the seafood pie and it was the best I have ever eaten anywhere with lots of cream and a bit of Vermouth in the sauce. Dessert was a choice of ice cream or strawberries and cream, and I opted for the latter not realizing they would give me the equivilent of a whole basket of strawberries to eat. To spite them I ate them all. Then some of us went back to Waterford City for "shopping" and I went to get answers to Helen's question. Then back to Dunmore East to pick up the rest and then back to Lattin, Co. Tipperary. The weather was gorgeous the whole day. The trip was 12 hours and my whole day 18 hours, which I find is a now getting to be bit much for a 67 year old woman. 3. Helen, I stopped in at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity just to be sure and there are zero portraits there. The Anglican church was closed, so I went over to the tourist office and got a very nice woman who gave me some information. Your contact at the Anglican church, Christ Church Cathedral, is: Susan Grant. Her phone number is 051 858 958 and the URL is www.christchurchwaterford.com, which may have a Contact Us link; I didn't go look. In the event that fails, there may be portraits at the City library or the City Archives, both in Waterford City itself (Different from the ones at Dungarvan for the county). The phone number for the library is 051 873 501. I don't have a phone number for the City Archivist. In the City Library, they have 4 special Waterford Rooms and there may be some portraits hanging in there. That's the best I could do in the little time I had there and with the church not open. 2. Hi everyone, Well I have found my great great gandmother and a greataunt in the 1901 Ireland census for Lismore. The House and Building return labels the place the are living as a "Mechanic Istitute" and its on Chapel Place. Any idea what that might be? This is No 1 on the page, buildings after that are labeled as private dwellings. The greataunt came to the US a few years later after my great grandmother died. Cheryl

    2. I have 3 sisters, Anna b. 1850 and Catherine b. 1852 and Margaret b. 1855 FOLEY born according to family records in Waterford, Ireland (do not know if they meant city or county). The 3 sisters came together to the US ca 1869 and settled and married in Philadelphia. So far, I have not found them on ship's manifests. Their parents are listed as Patrick and Catherine Foley. Looking at Waterford records, it looks like the surname Foley from Waterford is like Smith in the US? Not sure where I go from here to find Ireland records. Thank you. Elaine

    3. Hi Sandra, If you go back in the archives of the list, there is a discussion on the changes in the Waterford border and the dates. I think Pete has the information, too, as there was also a discussion a while back on the Irish Placenames list. Short answer is, yes, the border did move. 3. Dear List, My Hally, etc ancestors came from the Aughavanlomaun area according to baptismal records from Newcastle Parish in southern Tipperary. But Aughavanlomaun is so close to the Waterford border that I wonder if the border ever changed or at least became indistinct as to where someone lived. The reason I ask is that sometimes I run across something that indicates something Waterford. Did tenant farmers move or stay in the same place for years? They emigrated about 1847-1851 to the US. Thanks, Sandra Hawley

    3. I don't know if any of you have been following the news on the volcano in Iceland that has already erupted. There is a far bigger and more dangerous one that the scientists believe will erupt soon now and has the capacity to throw out far more ash. When it erupted in 1783 it caused a year's famine in Europe that precipitated the French Revolution. In light of this, I have asked Aggi-Rose Reddin to be my admin back-up in case the satellite signal cannot for some reason get through the ash to me and I am off-line. I asked Aggi-Rose because she is NOT in Ireland and the wind would be blowing ash away from her direction and because she is a long time member of the list. She's intelligent, fair and has a sense of humor but can be tough, and she really knows a lot about genealogy and DNA genealogy. In case you can't get a message through to me, you can always reach Aggi-Rose by sending a message to the Administrator from the list's Home Page. Cross your fingers Katla goes back to sleep. If I am ashed, be sweet to Aggi-Rose. Janet

    3. It appears that a lot of people have had their computers highjacked, i.e. their e-mail passwords have been discovered and someone is using their e-mail account to send out spam. Some of this can come through to the list if they are subscribers. If you ever see a message from the list that is just a URL to click on....don't click. Ignore it and delete it. By itself, the message is not harmful, but if you click, you will not like the results. The best protection we can all have is to regularly change our e-mail passwords, particularly those people who use hotmail. Without your (new) password, these jerks are not able to do anything. If you are not otherwise busy today, it might be a good day to do that password change while you are in your account. Janet
