Sorry John, I don't have any Geary's. I looked on all my baptism and marriage records for a Geary witness or sponsor but I didn't find any. I am searching for information about the parents of Matthew Power, born in Waterford in 1789 to Patrick Power and Margaret Allen. Matthew left Waterford as a young man to join uncles in New York but settled in Gaspe area of Quebec. The uncles are referred to as merchants in a volume of Gaspe history. The family may also have had ties to Devon. The Waterford Heritage lookup was of no help. Any information on this family will be appreciated.

Hi John, Have you checked the online obituary records at the New Orleans Public Library website at http://www.nutrias.org/~nopl/obits/obits.htm? Also, the library has a wonderful online resource at http://www.nutrias.org/~nopl/guides/genguide/gguide4.htm. If you find any of your ancestors on those sites and need help in learning more, let me know. For twenty years I have been on the trail of my great uncle (my mother's uncle). He emigrated from Lyrattin, Cappagh, Co. Waterford, IRELAND in 1902 and settled in Yonkers. I eventually traced his Naturalisation papers and his entry in the US 1920 census and then the brick wall. Recently I spent several days trawling through the NY Herald Statesman thanks to the web site of Fulton Postcards and I discovered a wealth of information. A kind gentleman went along to St. Joseph's Cemetery and photographed the burial place of Lawrence and his wife and son, but there is no headstone. I have the info on his four daughters but there is one son (Lawrence Jr.) missing. The family appears in the 1930 US Census under LUBEY but he gives his birth place as Northern Ireland ??. His wife appears to have been only 14 years when she emigrated and 16 when she married?? I am still hunting. Regards, Tony Mc Carthy
Thomas Francis Greene was born ca. 1865-1870 in Waterford, the son of Thomas Greene and Margaret McGrath who farmed near or on the property of Mount Mellory Abbey. He had two brothers who came to the USA ahead of him, one of whom was in the furniture business in Kentucky. Thomas arrived in Chicago from Waterford about 1888-1889, was hired immediately to work on the Chicago streetcars, later became head of the streetcar motormen's union. When the streetcars moved north he moved to Edgewater and then to the Ridge/Lunt area of Rogers Park. Among his friends from Waterford was an attorney named Slattery. Thomas died in Chicago in 1943. He married Julia Clare Callaghan (born in Bloomington, IL ca. 1873) in Chicago in June 1891. Her father was Jeremiah Callaghan from Kanturk, County Cork, and her mother was Mary Fitzgerald. Their surviving children included Vincent, Thomas, Agnes (Sr. M. Thos. Aquinas, BVM), Marcella, Beatrice, Vivian, Frances, and Winifred (Sr. Mary Julia Clare, BVM). Julia died in Chicago in 1932. I seek information on these McGrath and Greene families and their ancestors in Waterford, as well as living relatives with whom to share. ------------------------------- Researching: Costello (Galway and Mayo), Cotter, Durcan/Durkin, Higgins, Kelly, Lynch, McCarthy, Raftree/Raftery (Galway), Shannon, Sullivan, Welsh, Amacher, Baur, Bove, Cremer, Ehlen, Fischer, Gansberg (Bremen), Giefer, Hamacher, Hense/Henseler, Hofmann/Hoeffeler, Jackler/Jackelen, Jaegers, Koch, Kratz, Krebs, Morlot/Morlo/Morloh, Mueller/Meller, Mertes, Pick, Reetz, Rheinges, Reichardt/Reichert, Rick, Schmieden, Seitz/Zeidt, vonAlleman/Vollerman, vonMeer, Weiskopf, Zens, Albright, Compton, Corselius (PA>IA), Clemens/Clements (OH>MO), Daly/Daily (Galway), Derrick (Roscommon), Desponit/Dispennett, Early, Fallon (Galway), Greene (Waterford), Callaghan (Cork), Fitzgerald, McCarthy, McGrath (Waterford), McSweeney (Galway/Roscommon), Moss, Mullenix/Mullinax, Prichard, Reilly/O'Reilly (Galway, Roscommon), Shelly (PA), Shook (PA), Tye.
Good morning My roll- call is for any connection to Margaret Daly born 21 Nov 1879 in Villierstown her father was James Daly and Mother Catherine Daly (formerly Kiely). Maggie married in Croydon SRY 22 July 1899 to Albert Killick, so sometime from 1879 - 1899 the family moved to England if my death cert is right it would narrow it down from 1893 - 1899. There is also a sister Bridget (or Bridie) Daly I believe James died 19 Apr 1893 aged 69years in Villiestown with his wife Kate Daly present. I have a marriage certificate for James Dawley (note spelling) age 50 (widower) and Catherine Kiely aged 35 (never married) this couple married 11 Jan 1879 Chapel of Aglish. With the change in surname spelling not sure if this is one and the same family and of course if I take the date of birth from marriage cert making him born c1829 and from the death cert making him born c1824. Anyone else researching in Villierstown for this family group? Regards Leanne Perth, Australia

Hello Listers, My great grandfather William Flynn was born in "Waterford" the son of James and Margaret Flynn. He was baptised in the parish of Dunhill and Fenor on 21 January 1844. We know nothing more until he popped up in Adelaide South Australia in 1876 working as a "mariner" and married my great grandmother, Jane Mc Mahon an immigrant from Co Cavan. Does anyone else have anything on this Flynn family from Dunhill and Fenor please? Cheers Rob Flynn
Hi Listers In reply to Janet I am looking for any information on the GEE family. They seemed to have many holdings in the Ardmore area one of which was Lissaroe. I believe they are connected with the FUDGE (FUGE) family of Youghal Cork. Any information would be a great help. Robyn Fulton Sydney NSW
He was a moulder in a copper mine in Upper Michigan 1862; married Mathilda Sullivan of Adrigole , Co. Cork in 1868. May have worked at Bunmahon/Knockmahon but no evidence. His daughter Katherine married John Foley prob. from Deer Park, Lismore. May be related to family of Sen. Mike Mansfield (my father and uncle bore a very strong resemblance.) Not much to go on
I am looking for a Patrick Moran who may have married a Mary or a Jane sometime in 1830 who had a son James (born 1835-37 in Ireland) (who married an Alice Lamb born 1840 in Ireland) whose father was James Lamb...some of family folklore says they were from the Waterford.wexford counties. But I am pretty sure that the folklore speaks of the May family Robert May born 1839 (son of Timothy May born 1813) who married Susanah Christina Lawlor (daughter of Jerimiah Lawlor from Dublin)...but like to watch the site just in case I am wrong.
Mary - that is a very cool story. Surname: FOLEY I have 3 sisters who came to the US - Anna b, ca 1850, Catherine b. ca 1852 and Margaret Foley b. ca 1855. They came to US ca 1865-70 and lived in Philadelphia. Their parents are Patrick Foley and Catherine according to US records. Margaret married Michael McBride, Anna married Wm Chadwick, and Catherine married John Kennedy. They are on the 1870 US census. They came from Waterford. I have been unable to find them on ship's manifest or trace them further back within Ireland. Thank you. Elaine
I'm researching the family of John Fay and Mary Slattery Fay, married around 1820 in the Modeligo area. Their sons Thomas and James emigrated to southern Ohio in the early 1850's. Any suggestions for researching the family or the Modeligo area are appreciated. Thanks, Bob Krebs
