I am looking for an honest and reliable researcher to peruse 19th century Roman Catholic sacramental records for the Baptism of one, Michael O'Sullivan b. circa 1821 in County Waterford to Jeremiah H. Sullivan (or O'Sullivan) and Mary (maiden name unknown). Names of researchers willing and able to do this work welcome. Will pay a reasonable fee. Thanks Rick Barrett
Hi all, My Waterford line is Michael Crowley about 1820-1878, married to Ellen Kieley/Keily, abt 1830-1903. They lived in Lismore. I would love to trace them back further. My great uncle told me Michael was publican and farmer in Lismore. Their children were Bridget, Michael, Ellen, Catherine, Margaret (my great grandmother), Teresa, Peter and Carthage (these 2 died in infancy). As far as I can tell only my great grandmother had any children but I could be wrong. Margaret emigrated to Boston through NY with her sister Catherine. Catherine (Kate) stayed in NY and I think I have her in the census through 1920 still unmarried. Ellen and Michael died in their 20s in Lismore. Bridget I found in the family cemetery plot in Boston, unmarried. Yeresa I see on a ship manifest to Boston to my great grandmother in 1903, after her mother died. By the 1930 census I find her in St Vincent's Retreat (hospital) in Westchester NY, unmarried and Have no idea what happened to her. Any ideas/suggestions...... Cheryl

My County Waterford line is: Generation 1. Patrick FITZGERALD and Mary CHRISTOPHER had at least two children, Patrick (1830s(?)-1886) and Alice (1840-1922). Family tradition says there were more children but is not specific on number or names. I have no other definite information about this couple except for their names on Alice's Iowa USA death certificate. Alice's obituary confirms her County Waterford origin. Generation 2. Patrick Christopher FITZGERALD did not marry Jane MCGRATH but had a son by her born August 15, 1852. Family tradition says that she died at the baby's birth and that Patrick (2) left the baby with his sister and disappeared for seven years. He spent part of this time with the British East India Company's 3rd Bengal European Regiment, serving during the Indian Mutiny. A notebook handed down in the family includes a copy of an 1876 letter applying for a pension for this service. It lists the battles he served in and states that he received a medal from the minister in "Balamolt" (Ballinamult, where there was a barracks until 1865?). Patrick (2), his son, and his sister Alice emigrated to the United States about 1859. I have not found their passenger records or records of the U.S. Civil War service that family tradition credits Patrick (2) with. Patrick (2) lived in Whiteside County and Chicago, Illinois and died in Lyons, Clinton County, Iowa, probably at the home of his sister Alice (Whalen). From available evidence, Patrick (2) never married or had other children; his son is listed as a "natural son or child, Patsy" on his estate administration papers. I have no records of Jane McGrath other than her name on her son's Iowa death certificate. Generation 3. Patrick Christopher FITZGERALD (1852-1917), according to family lore, crossed the Atlantic 13 times. On his last trip he married Catheriine GRIBBIN, of a northern Irish family, in Chester, England in 1885. They lived in Clinton and Lee Counties, Iowa and had 8 children: Patrick G, Philip James, Harry C., Thomas Jerome (my grandfather), Charles Leo, Mary, and Agnes (Reding). Patrick, Thomas, Charles, and Agnes left descendants. I would love to find more information about the first two generations above, including where in County.Waterford they lived. In addition to the possible mention of Ballinamult, Patrick (2)'s notebook includes addresses in Boolavonteen and Touraneena.
Hello group! I have been researching my family history for a while now and have determined that my 3rd great-grandfather and grandmother immigrated to the us in about 1853/1854. I assume they came over with a son who was born about 1853 because I cannot find any baptismal record for him here. However, some census records suggest that he was born in the USA. I have found the birth record for their next child, Patrick, who was born in 1855 (actually it is the baby's baptismal record). They were Catholic. We have not been able to find any record of where they came from in Ireland. Jame has a brother William who married in Providence, RI where they lived at the time in 1857. They then moved out to Provincetown, MA for many years. I assume William came over with his brother, James and sister-in-law but I'm not positive. James Gorman - b: about 1815 Ireland Mary Dee - b:about 1825 Ireland William Gorman - b: about 1825 Ireland They were Roman Catholic. Thank you very much! My great grandfather James Patrick Delahunty was born in Waterford in 1847 , and emigrated to birkenhead in England, His father was Walter Delahunty who married Anastasia Connery in 1834. Some of this information came from the Waterford Heritage Society. If anyone can suggest other avenues of research concerning Walter and his wife Anastasia, which would go back further, it would be appreciated.

Our line originates in Clashmore, Waterford just before 1800. John Connell (b ca. 1775) Michael Connell (1800-1870) and Ellen Hayes Michael Connell (1839-1897) and Mary Neville Michael John Connell (b 1874) who moved to Youghal in the 1890s. I have quite extensive information on this family, and the related surnames, in Clashmore. Many of the offspring of Michael Connell and Mary Neville emigrated to the USA and settled in Hartford, CT from the 1880s onward. My GGgf, John Quirk and GGgm, Bessie Condon were born ca 1800. John was probably born in Mo(y)collop; unsure of Bessie's POB. They married ca 1830. But no Lismore records of their marriage exist; Bessie likely was not of that parish/diocese and may have been from Co. Cork. I have records of most of their children's Baptisms, and some of the children's marriage and death records. All those records show POB as Mo(y)collop and parents as John and Bessie. If anyone on the list can shed some light on likely sources, I would be grateful. Thank you, Dave Collins Hudson, MA, USA
The Republic of Ireland is just slightly larger than the province of Nova Scotia, Canada. We have five main McGrath families in the province descended from Irish forefathers - mainly from Waterford, Cork and Tipperary counties. All five families are thoroughly researched from the time the original descendant arrived here over 200 years ago until present day. The same cannot be said of our Irish roots. My Family: Three brothers - Michael McGrath b. abt. 1800, John McGrath b. abt. 1803 and James McGrath b. abt. 1808 arrived in Rocky Bay, Cape Breton (a British Colony at the time but now a part of Nova Scotia) circa 1820. James McGrath is my great, great grandfather. He and his brother Michael fathered 26 children in Canada. Today many of their descendants live in Nova Scotia, Massachusetts and California. Family history has them originating from County Waterford. Some even say Clashmore Parish near Youghal. My conundrum is the depth of research conducted on this side of the ocean should be emulated on the other side in Ireland; therefore, a McGrath family in Waterford County must be doing the same research for their family. Yet after twelve years I still have not been able to find that family. If you are living in or from Waterford County and have a McGrath ancestor that immigrated to Nova Scotia then I may be able to help you - Can you help me? My gr grandfather was Richard R. Power(s) born about 1820 in Ireland. I have found the middle initial of "R" on his Declaration of Intent and his death certificate. His death certificate (1891, Livingston County, New York - informant his wife) indicates that Richard's father's name was Pierce. The DC gives no indication of his mother's name. I don't find Richard in the 1850 census, but he married Elizabeth Rowan in about 1852 in New York;Elizabeth Rowan lived in Arcade/then China, New York. There are a couple of Richard Power(s) on ships lists but can't verify if any are mine. I've been told that, with names like Richard and Pierce, this Power(s) family was probably from Waterford. I know that I have too little info on him to actually get help from any List, but I keep trying. They had 14 children, all born in NY; I have the death certificates for 10 of them - all only show that Richard was born in Ireland. The third son of Richard and Elizabeth was named Pierce, after Richard's father Their third daughter was named after Elizabeth's mother They never named a son after Richard (they had 5 sons) They did name a daughter after Elizabeth They never named a son Dennis, after Elizabeth's father Please double-check subject line & snip your messages when replying. Tony, don't know where you are located, but the Yonkers Public Library has the Herald, Statesman and Herald-Statesman on micro-fiche. I try to get there once or twice a year with my own list of obits, etc to look up. Tom In a message dated 6/23/2011 5:51:01 A.M.
