    1. Re: [WATERFORD] Waterford records online
    2. Sandra J Hawley
    3. Hi, I just wanted to mention my experience with the Waterford Heritage Society. As my family lived in the Newcastle Parish area I knew that Waterford was where the records would be held. I knew of the Newcastle Parish because of a Wisconsin church death record for a brother of my gg grandfather which indicated birth places for both of his parents in Co Tipperary. I decided to have Waterford do a search for me. I gave them all the information I had, and they found baptismal records for 11 of 13 children of my ggg grandparents, and a marriage record for one of the children that I don't think was correct as they were in the US by that time, as well as a few other small nuggets of information. The cost was $200 which was a lot, but now I have the actual baptismal dates. My gg grandfather's headstone in Wisconsin says that he was born in 1830, however, his baptismal date was 2 Jan 1823 which means he was born probably in Dec 1822. But with so many records online and coming online, it may be worth it to wait. Waterford looked for the names of the children born with the names of my ggg grandparents. If any website allows a search that includes parents names, that would eliminate most that one would not be of interest. If I had searched for my gg grandfather's birth in 1830 as on the headstone, I might have ignored the 1822 date and never found him. So I have found my ancestors in Ireland and in Wisconsin, but nothing in NY where they lived for probably 5 years plus or minus. All in all, I feel that it was worth it to use Waterford. But would I do it again today, maybe. Good luck, Sandy On 9/30/2011 1:08 AM, Janet Crawford wrote: > Janet, I see that you are quite upset about the records, something > which we have been complaining for years now. 3. Janet, I see that you are quite upset about the records, something which we have been complaining for years now. I don't think the IFHF records are on-line just yet, but maybe a day or two away - at least I haven't received notice yet that they are live. Have I missed something? Since the Archbishop of Cashel & Emly oversees Waterford, we may only see the civil records and the C of I records, but we will have to wait and see. Waterford Heritage maybe does need to be a bit more polite and helpful, but when I finally decided to use them for my own family, they did do a thorough job as far as I can tell and I did ask follow-up questions to clarify a few things. Yes, they are expensive compared to others, but it is still the least expensive and fastest way to get information...although coming over to Ireland is the best way. 3. Sandy, List, I found records at Bru Boru that Waterford did not have. The births of a couple of children and a few marriage records to be specific. I did a few full family research projects with Waterford. When a few of the marriages weren't found I decided to take a chance and look in Tipp. Luckily all my missing records were found. I'm not sure why some of the records were found in Waterford and others at Bru Boru. All my missing records involved towns in the southern most regions of Tipp. I also looked for the records Waterford sent at the Bru Boru Centre and they were not there. My advice to anybody whose family is from this area is to look in both places now that Waterford is coming online. The records were for the town of Clogheen which was part of the RC diocese of Lismore. I think Waterford holds a great many RC Tipp. records for the diocese of Lismore. I'm very happy that Waterford is finally making records available. Hopefully they will allow the advanced search which would really be helpful. Helen

    3. In John Grenham's weekly genealogy column in today's Irish Times, he mentions a Peter Clarke, an amateur genealogist, who has compiled a list of books of Irish genealogical interest. The list contains over 400 titles and from a first glance, looks interesting. It is at: http://freeirishgenebooks.blogspot.com/ Happy reading! Peter

    1. [WATERFORD] Ballyclerihan & Newchapel graveyards, Co. Tipperary
    2. Janet Crawford
    3. I have just posted an index to the stones in those 2 graveyards on the CoTipperary list. If you do not subscribe, you can look at those in the Tipp archives. Those 2 graveyards would have been in and out of the Diocese of Lismore over the centuries, and there are quite a few people from Clonmel buried there. I did note this one that specifically mentioned Waterford: Daniel, Richard of Waterford d. March 12th 1831 aged ? Daniel was another version of O'Donnell in this area, and there are quite a few of both versions buried in these 2 graveyards. Janet

    1. [WATERFORD] RONAYNE
    2. Cara_Links
    3. I dont know what happens on this list, people simply must write something and then run off and hibernate, there is never any more input, there is never a thankyou to anyone who posts, in fact there is never a recognition that one has written to the list, so therefore its the best way to make a list not function do not partake on it...........now I have not written this to create a problem for our mighty List Admin, but to make people aware that if we do not use these lists, they will become a thing of the past, the best way to make a list work in your favour is to use it. RONAYNE A lady wrote to me about this name I did not intentionally ignore her, a series of things occurred, none more so beautiful than the birth of Matilda Kathleen, who has me smitten yet again, also genealogy took a back seat and there it really has sat, for a ling time but now I have gathered together ( not yet typed for mailing) a wonderful amount of bits and pieces of Waterford families. So if you have a name that you desire me to remember and look out for then start using the list and ask, my motto on Irish research has always been * if at first you dont receive an answer then ask and ask and ask again- * But this little gem popped up today so am passing it on:- WATERFORD 1867 Bankrupts RONAYNE:- Patrick of Dungarvan County of Waterford. Petition of Bankruptcy, filed 7th May 1867. To surrender Friday May 24, and Tuesday June 11. L.H. Deering, Offical Assignee. Perry. solr Can supply a copy of this if anyone desires it .............through email.

    2. William Whelan
    3. Hi All Apologies for it being so long since you may have heard an update on museum activities. We have been very busy finalising some projects. We would appreciate any feedback or support you can give us. Please feel free to suggest the app to your friends on Facebook or Twitter if you think it may be of interest to them. We have also posted a new video on our YouTube channel www.youtube.com/user/waterfordcomuseum about how we are using an iPad to make visiting the museum a more enjoyable experience. Feedback so far has been great. My thanks to all of those that give their time freely to make the museum the great community organisation it is. As ever feel free to email your complaints, praise or observations to website@waterfordmuseum.ie :))) Yours Willie Whelan, Waterford County Museum 1. Audio Heritage Trail For Dungarvan Launched 2. Developing Low Cost Audio Walking Tours Across Waterford 3. Follow The Museum On Facebook, Twitter & YouTube 4. Contact Waterford County Museum ----------------------- 1. Audio Heritage Trail For Dungarvan Launched ----------------------- Discover the history of Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, Ireland and explore some of the historic landmarks. This easy to use audio tour features contemporary accounts from soldiers, travellers and writers from times past. Travel back in time and see the town as our ancestors saw it. The app contains an interactive map with GPS system, 38 photos (most over 100 years old), a cast of 9 actors, sound effects and a script created by historians from Waterford County Museum. Once the tour has been downloaded it works offline, which means that you can enjoy the tour without needing to connect to the internet. This audio trail has been produced by Waterford County Museum in co-operation with local volunteers who gave their time freely so that you can enjoy our town's history. The iPhone version of the Dungarvan Heritage Audio Tour, costs 79 cent it is available now via the App Store. View screenshots of the app here http://bit.ly/pQnNEF Free Podcast Version For MP3 Players, Android And Other Smartphones A free version of the tour is currently being prepared. This podcast will not feature the GPS system on the app or the photos. We have prepared a free downloadable map to accompany this tour. The advantage of the free tour is that it will play on all smart phones (Android etc.) and will also run on MP3 players. Official Launch The official launch of the App will be happening during Heritage Week 20th to the 28th August. We will also announce other exciting museum developments at the launch. Full details of all those who worked on the app for the past 8 months or so will be appearing in the official press releases which will appear in the local media, my thanks to them all and also Glen Barnes of mytoursapp.com for his help and co-operation. ----------------------- 2. Developing Low Cost Audio Walking Tours Across Waterford ----------------------- It is hoped to do a lecture in September for other heritage / community groups in Waterford to allow communities to develop their own own walking tour apps. We managed to develop this app at almost no cost due to the goodwill of a lot of people, hopefully the lessons we have learned can be used by other community groups. Waterford County Museum is a voluntary organisation and a registered charity dedicated to preserving the history of County Waterford. You can see screenshots from the app on iTunes / App Store. http://bit.ly/pQnNEF ----------------------- 3.
