I have a simular query. My baptism of 1903 was in Windgap Waterford, but I know that on the 1901 and 1911 census records the family was living in Castlejohn, Carrick on Suir, Tipperary. Would anyone know of the name of the church in Windgap where the baptism might have taken place. Thanks Julie
Fred, All I have on St. Mary's Clonmel is this: Prior to 1836 the present SS. Peter and Paul's formed part of the old parish of St. Mary's, which embraced not only the town of Clonmel but a considerable country district in the counties of Tipperary and Waterford. When that extensive parish was divided into two, one division retained the mother-church and the ancient name, whilst the other received the name, SS. Peter and Paul's, and obtained possession of a church which had been built in 1810, as an auxiliary to St. Mary's Janet On Mon, Oct 10, 2011 at 7:29 PM, Fred Waring <fred.waring@verizon.net> wrote: > I was very excited to find on the rootsireland site the birth of Anastasia Connery in 1820. > > I was hoping to find a birthplace.also. Yes, we do owe them. The diaspora has always been looked upon as a defeat for the Irish caused by the Famine [An Gorta Mor or The Great Hunger]. However, when one looks at what the Irish have done throughout the world after they emigrated, it is actually one of the greatest successes, looking at all the Irish who attained greatness outside of Ireland. Enda Kenny wants to make 2012 the year of The Gathering, when the Irish return to the homeland to meet their relatives. I was very excited to find on the rootsireland site the birth of Anastasia Connery in 1820. I was hoping to find a birthplace.also. But the record indicates her birth parish/district was St Mary's Clonmel in county Waterford. The civil parish of St Mary's Clonmel is in South Tipperary But the catholic diocese is in Waterford. any idea /suggestions of how to proceed to get a clearer notion of birthplace.

Hi all, Please don't assume that if some [a few] RC records are showing up on the IFHF site that ALL will be there. I don't know yet why some are appearing but it might go live for only a couple of parishes. We have to wait and see and the page that affirms the sources is not yet available. Janet
James, the average Irishman in the 1800's got around [if not actually moved around] far more than one might think. Often land leases were only for one year and the farmer had to find a new and often better place to lease for the next year. The farmers also attended cattle marts all over the area. Hi Terry! Thank you so much!! This is very welcome news.... I recall reading in one of the emails prior to the Waterford records actually going on line that the RC records would NOT be included..I was crestfallen at that news...but then I found the record of Michael O'Sullivan (spelled Sulliven in the record) and it just seems too close to be a coincidence... so the fact that you found your relatives in pre 1864 records and that they were also Catholic is welcome news... and certainly makes one believe that the Catholic records are indeed part of the on line collection now available. Jim, Although Kilsheelan appears in the Waterford & Lismore records, it is not in Co. Waterford, but in Co. Tipperary. As to departure ports, it might have been Waterford City, but more likely Cobh [Cove], Co. Cork, or New Ross, Co. Wexford...or any other port in Ireland, but those are the most likely. Hello all, I just used waterford.rootsireland.ie and was finally able to link my family to a specific place in Ireland!!!! My educated guess was right. Thank you for all your help! Now that I have the baptismal record for the first child of James & Mary (Dee) Gorman from Kilsheelan, Co. Waterford. I want to discover 2 more facts: 1. Where and when were they married. I imagine it was a year or so before the birth of son William in June of 1853. The marriage record are not up yet for Waterford though :(. Any suggestions? 2. How were they able to come over to Pawtucket, RI from Waterford. Anyone know of passenger lists from Waterford County? They made the voyage between june 1853 and aug 1855 (the birth of their second son. So I have a narrow time frame. Thanks, Jim Gorman
Hi Everyone: I went on http://waterford.rootsireland.ie/ and found the record pasted below... I am wondering if the Waterford Heritage Center posted the Roman Catholic records after all? or is this a Church of Ireland record? or perhaps a civil record relative to a Roman catholic notwithstanding it was 1819? and therefore civil registration not required prior to 1864? I'd appreciate any advice. The Michael O'Sullivan whom I am researching was Roman Catholic but this record is so close in terms of names of parents and age of Michel., etc., I am hoping it may, in fact, be my guy ... It's probably wishful thinking but I thought I'd throw it out there... Thanks so much, Rick Barrett Clifton, Virginia USA Church Baptism Record Name: Michael Sullevan Date of Baptism/Birth: 30-May-1819 Address: Dunmore Parish/District: KILLEA Gender: County Co.
