    3. Another family member did research on the family many years ago and he listed the parents of Anna, Catherine and Margaret Foley as Patrick Foley and Catherine (surname not listed). This John I found yesterday was born the same year as Anna listed in censuses here in the US. I did check earlier dates for her on IFHF. It is possible they had a brother John, but not in the previous research done by another family member. I do have the marriage date for Anna and Catherine but not sure what Catholic church in Phila. they were married...maybe I will contact Archdiocese there and order their marriage records. On Anna's obit it lists her parents as Patrick and Catherine Foley. Elaine, Did you know the parent's names before you searched for the baptism?  If so you have probably found a brother of your Foley sisters who didn't survive childhood or didn't emigrate

    2. Hi Sandra, if you write to Rev. Robert Arthure, retired parrish priest of Cappoquin at Shanbally, Cappoquin, Co. Waterford, IRELAND, I'm sure he will do a look up of the parish register of Cappoquin for you or he will arrange for one of the volunteers to do so. Regards, Tony Mc Carthy Message: 1 Date: Wed, 12 Oct 2011 20:11:43 -0700 From: Sandra J Hawley <sanj@centurytel.net> Subject: [WATERFORD] IFHF Waterford Records - Power(s) To: waterford@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <4E9656EF.7000607@centurytel.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Today I searched the Waterford records and found and paid for the baptismal record for John Power, 10-Feb-1845, parents Michael Power and Ellen Hally in Cappoquin Parish (where Mt Melleray Abbey is located). This was kind of a test for me as I knew the names of John's parents and that he was born in 1845. This record gives sponsors as Timothy Griffin and Johanna Foley which I did not know. It seems kind of expensive if you don't know for sure who you are getting the record for. I am looking for a William Hally and Patrick Hally born between 1816-1834 plus or minus whose parents are Michael Hally and Catherine English. And I saw a number of William's and Patrick's listed, some of which I thought could rule out mostly because there were other children I do have records for born in the same year. Although, there was one set of twins in this Hally family so maybe I can't rule any of them out. The above Ellen Hally (daughter of Michael and Catherine) was born in Newcastle Parish in Oct 1816 and I have her baptismal record from Newcastle Parish. I will be looking for the wedding of Ellen Hally and Michael Power in Cappoquin Parish as well as Newcastle Parish. 3. Hello Tony, Thank you so much for the great suggestion. I'll bet that Rev. Arthure knew Fr Patrick (Paddy) Hallinan who died a few years ago. Fr Hallinan of Aughvanlomaun townland was of great assistance when we visited Newcastle Parish in 2003 and 2005 even to the point of driving with me to visit various possible Hally relatives and to cemetaries. Amazing! Another story for another time. And he may also know Fr Uinsean of Mt Melleray Abbey who is the archivist there. Mt Melleray is in the Cappoquin Parish I understand. I will write to Rev. Arthure. Thanks, Sandy On 10/13/2011 2:08 AM, tonymccarthy@eircom.net wrote: > Hi Sandra, > if you write to Rev. Robert Arthure, retired parrish priest of Cappoquin at Shanbally, Cappoquin, Co. 3. Elaine,    Did you know the parent's names before you searched for the baptism?  If so you have probably found a brother of your Foley sisters who didn't survive childhood or didn't emigrate.  If you're not sure these are the parents of your Foley's your best bet is to keep searching in the USA for everything you can find, obituaries, marriage and death certificates, anything that might confirm or disprove the baptismal records you purchased are the right ones.     Not finding the other sister's baptism in not terribly unusual, it could be misspelled, illegible or lost, I found my ggg grandmother Honora Crotty baptized in 1814 Tramore, but her brother John Crotty is not in the database.  I know it's her because I have her parent's names from a death cert. in NY, and her brother John's death cert. shows the same parents. Good Luck, Ellen     --- On Wed, 10/12/11, Elaine Sharp <bellemarco@gmail.com> wrote:  I did a search on Foley the year she was born 1850 and it came up with John Foley....so I do not know if I am following the right family or not.  I did check a few years before and after hoping to find her. 3. Yesterday I did a search and found and paid for 2 records. One for Margaret Foley, Waterford that I found in Newcastle b. 1854; today I did one for Catherine Foley b. 1851 Newcastle and these are close to the dates of the 3 Foley sisters I am researching used in the USA. I am still trying to find Anna and other spellings of the name. I did a search on Foley the year she was born 1850 and it came up with John Foley....so I do not know if I am following the right family or not. I did check a few years before and after hoping to find her. No luck. Is it possible the transcription of the name John could be incorrect? They all have the same mother and father with variations of spellings the mother's surname. All I know is these 3 Foley sisters came to Philadelphia ca 1869 (from Waterford according to family records) and they are in Phila. in the 1870 census records. Don't know where to go from here. They also include the father's name, the mother's maiden name, a WHC reference number, the baptism date, the priest's name, the parish, the church and the book and page number. -----Original Message----- From: cdynan <cdynan@rcn.com> To: waterford <waterford@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wed, Oct 12, 2011 7:46 am Subject: [WATERFORD] IFHF live and the name Anna Hi everyone, My great grandmother was born in 1867 in Lismore and I saw her birth record through the LDS years ago. I tried to find her sister Catherine and while there is one in the date range, with father Patrick Foley and mother Catherine....the mother's maiden name is apparently not the same as it will none come up with her surname. Is it possible the surname is spelled incorrectly? Also, I cannot find the sister Anna at all - I also tried with the spelling Anne, Annie, any others I should try? So I am not too sure this Margaret is right either??? Hesitate to order the one for Catherine only to find out the mother is not the same Catherine Connell. Comments? Thanks. 3. Elaine,  The name could be misspelled.  I searched for my gg grandfather Philip Power of Tramore and used Edmund as his father's name and Honora for his mother and came up with nothing.  When I changed the spelling to Edmond I got a hit. Honora didn't get any hits either, but Honor did. Seems like such minor spelling differences should have been cought by the search engine since they also search for variants, but they weren't. I don't think the records are complete yet even within parishes, none of Philip's siblings show up in any search.
