Well, I'll start!! I am researching my Gough line that actually lived in Clonmel Tipperary, but after fruitless searching at the Tipperary Heritage Centres I have found out the records for Clonmel are in Waterford..... because Clonmel is in the diocese of St. Mary's Waterford. Luckily I still have family in the area who have been going to the Waterford Heritage Centre to search the books and records themselves, however the Waterford Heritage Centre does do searching for people, and I am told they are very quick about it. Father Michael is in charge there now, and I have corresponded with him. Several years ago there were problems with many of the Centres taking a long time, but now that is not the case with Waterford. You can check out their page at http://ireland.iol.ie/~mnoc/ On the 1901 census we found: John Gough age 65 farmer Bridget Gough age 60 wife John Gough age 34 (son) coachman Catherine McDonald age 32 (visiting) Eileen McDonald age 2 (visiting) interesting that the census taker happened to catch their daughter Catherine there visiting from her home in Ardfinnan! Their other daughter Mary Ellen Gough had left in 1885 to go to Brooklyn, where she married John Henry McCarthy (they later moved to Bridgeport CT). Mary Ellen Gough is my great grandmother. Anyone else searching in Clonmel area? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maura Petzolt Mobile, Alabama USA mpetzolt2@webtv.net =============================== visit the IrelandGenWeb home page at http://www.worldgenweb.org/ireland/index.html
Hi and welcome to the Waterford list!! Today is our "birthday" so to speak, and so I want to congratulate you on being the first to sign up and join! We have about 12 members right now. My idea for this list is to (1) assist each other in researching in the County Waterford area and (2) answer questions about some basic genealogy queries. Most general queries are regularly dealt with on the IrelandGenWeb list, of which I am list monitor, but posting them here is OK too..... as long as we don't get too far away from searching in Waterford. I would like this list to be a welcome place for you to ask your questions and post what you are looking for. If you need help please remember to give us enough information so we can help you - tell us what you know, tell us what you don't know, tell us what you want to know. General questions like "looking for information on John McCarthy" won't get you much of a response. Please write down my email above and contact me if you have any problems with receiving the list messages. Be sure to save the welcome message you received when you subscribed -- it has ALL the commands you will need if you need to switch to digest or regular mailing, or if you need to unsubscribe for any reason. Be patient with me! I am learning this list management as we go, but I will do my best to make this a fun and helpful place to be!! So now, let's all introduce ourselves and see what everyone is working on..... Happy Searching, Maura ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maura Petzolt Mobile, Alabama USA mpetzolt2@webtv.net =============================== visit the IrelandGenWeb home page at http://www.worldgenweb.org/ireland/index.html
Hi everyone, Maura, Thanks for this list. You seem to be a busy person. I am looking for a birth record of Margaret WHEELER b. 1827 in Portlaw,Waterford. I don't know who her parents were yet. Margaret married John O'MEARA ca. 1845. John was b. 1825 in Nenagh,Tipperary. I'm not sure if they were married in Tipperary or Waterford but would imagine the marriage would have been near the bride's family in Waterford. I would like to find a marriage record also. Margaret and John were in England in 1846 where their first child was born before coming to the USA. Dana O'Meara Lusby,MD
