    2. Hi Sharon None of my Kennedy line settled in Missouri or Kansas that I am aware of. Do you have any idea when those pictures of John William and Catherine were taken? There are a lot of Johns in my relatives but no Catherines. Joan

    3. Hi Joan, I saw your post and am curious about your Kennedy connection. Did any of your Kennedys end up in the Missouri/Kansas area of the US??? I have a James Donovan/Honora Christopher line that I am working on. James D was from Clashmore parish/Honora was from Ardmore/Ring. In the will of a brother-in-law, Maurice McGuire, there was money left to a nephew named Morris Kennedy. Also, I recently found pictures of a boy and girl in with all of my old family photos. The back of the picture says "John William Kennedy, age 3" and "Catherine Elizabeth Kennedy, age 2". I've been trying to connect the Kennedy line to my Donovan/Christopher/McGuire lines. Anything sound familiar??? Sharon

    3. Hi Pam..we're gonna find a link someday! I actually don't have any "MANSFIELDS" that I know of..someone on the list had a marriage to a Prendergast, was it you may who sent me the old photo? This Prendergast group which emigrated to Newfoundland, just blows me away though. It's been my paternal side (CONNORS-KENNEDY) which was Irish newfie and now to find out the possibility that I could have 100% IRISH NEWFIE lines..what a joy! My Ellen Prnedergast married a Reidy and died in 1934 in NYC; so doubt she's the author (darn!) And my Maurice was actually an O'Gorman so that one is out too! However, I will claim them as COUSINS until proven otherwise! I was trying to tie a Michael Prendergast who shows up in EARLY Newfoundland records to the Waterford line but haven't found anything specific yet. I'll have to search google later to check out some of Maurice's Art..I have heard of him but have not checked out any details. I'll be on vacation for the FOURTH, have a great one. Remember 9/11 Joanne! PAM WROTE: HelloJoanne---Can't recall if I wrote asking you if any of your Mansfields included Paulina. She was apparently a very wealthy woman--Mrs.---who owned large tracts of land in the s.e. corner of Kilkenny, 3 miles across the river from Waterford. We can't seem to find anything about her and wonder if she was an absentee landlord living in England. Our grdfthr lived on part of her property, altho there is no mention of her residing on any of it. In 1960 an article was first published in the "Old Kilkenny Review" on a pre-historic burial site at Kilmurry,Slieve Rue, Kilkenny written by Ellen Prendergast. Are you familiar with the artist Maurice Prendergast? His family emigrated to Newfoundland from the Inistioge, Kilkenny area and then moved on to Boston. He is considered one of the fine Ashcan School of Artists in America. Maybe one of your relatives?! A Prendergast is in my line from Inistioge. Pam O'connor Hi Pam...gonna find a connection to you in one line or another, someday! I donHelloJoanne---Can't recall if I wrote asking you if any of your Mansfields included Paulina. 3. "[1] My paternal great-grandfather was Matthew Power from County Waterford, and his wife was Ellen, surname unknown to me." Have you tried looking through Griffith's Valuation for 1851 for Co. Waterford? Perhaps you will find the family through that source. They may have lived with his or her parents and you could find a link to another generation, or perhaps her maiden name? Amy

    1. [WAT] Matthew Power, Waterford, Ireland - possible Newfoundland connection

    3. I am trying to trace information about my paternal great-grandfather, Matthew Power, but have failed to get much information despite a number of paid commissioned searches by Waterford Heritage Services. It has now been suggested to be by a kind person on one of the Rootsweb Lists that I should look at the possibility of a link with Newfoundland because Matthew Power was a fisherman. The following is all of the information that I have at present:-. [1] My paternal great-grandfather was Matthew Power from County Waterford, and his wife was Ellen, surname unknown to me. [2] Matthew Power was described as a labourer, but was probably more accurately a fisherman, and his address was given as Corrignore, County Waterford, on the marriage certificate for my grandfather's first marriage on 7th September 1868. My grandfather, William Power, married Anne Meany in the Church of the Mast Holy Trinity Without, Ballybricken, Waterford City on 7th September 1868. [3] Matthew Power was described as a fisherman and his address was given as Crooke, County Waterford, on the marriage certificate of my grandfather's second marriage on 4th November 1884. My grandfather, William Power, married Mary Ellen Power in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity Without, Ballybricken, Waterford city on 4th November 1884 following the death of his first wife. I have no other documents in which my great-grandfather, Matthew Power, is mentioned. I cannot trace a birth record for my grandfather, William Power, despite have an exact date of birth 10th November 1846 [and the names of his parents - Matthew and Ellen Power] and despite having inspected both the 1901 and the 1911 Census records in both of which he is stated to have been born in County Waterford. It has now been suggested to me that sometimes children were born in Newfoundland to wives of Waterford fishermen and that they would have considered themselves to be from Waterford. In later life, the fact of birth in Newfoundland might be forgotten. I realise that this is a "long shot", but if anybody has access to birth records in Newfoundland they might like to check for me if a William Power was to Matthew and Ellen Power on or about 10th November 1846. The other point that is think is wirth mentioning is that Matthew was an unusual Power first name in th 1800s. I can only trace a total of 3 deaths of a Matthew Power in the records of County Waterford [excluding Waterford City] between 1864 and 1900. Also, I can only thrace 5 by name Matthew Power in THOM's Directory of Waterford City & County 1909/1910. Any information will be much appreciated. Dr Con Power

He was a ship's fireman. His brother married Mary's sister but I dont know their names. I am unable to find John's marriage in the MArriage Registers for Englan and Wales an presume that he and Mary married in Ireland. 'Tom' Tucker -- Michael G.
