    1. [WAT] Sullivan/McCarthy
    2. Sheila Block
    3. Dear Susan, It is unlikely we are related, but I am searching the Sullivan family in the Barony Coshmore & Coshbride of County Waterford. My great great grandmother, Mary Sullivan, was born somewhere in that Barony and baptised in 1799 in Tallow RC Church. I know she had a brother Michael born about 2 years previously, around 1795, obviously not your Michael. He died in the Alms House on Blackwell's Island in NYC. Mary, his sister, died on the Ship Marmion in 1853 and was buried at sea on the way to NY. John Sullivan is such a common name, but file this away somewhere anyway until you find out more about the possible location of the family's home place. Good luck, Sheila MacAvoy Block

Changing Email address for this mailing list ============================================== 1. Dungarvan Museum Reproduction Postcards Selling Well ============================================== The reproduction postcard that the society printed at the start of the summer is selling very well. We will shortly be printing the second card in the series. This card will probably be of Grattan Square circa 1900. ============================================== 2. Recent Donations and Events ============================================== The Tom Tobin exhibition of photos from 1950's and 60's Dungarvan and West Waterford has proved to be one of our most popular exhibitions yet. Willie Fraher the curator did a great job assembling the exhibition (along with the museum staff). This exhibition will run all Summer long at the museum so please feel free to drop in if you are in the area. Letters Of Henry Eeles - Over 50 letters from this gentlemen written in the 18th Century have recently been donated to the museum. An agent for the Duke Of Devonshire Eeles was a noted scientist and conducted experiments with electricity and also invented (and constructed) "The Flying Carriage" . This carriage was wind powered and would have operated like a modern day sand yacht. Letters From Capt. Sheehan - An extensive collection of correspondence from this Dungarvan seafarer were purchased at auction. They describe his voyages all around the world in the 19th century. We have finally installed a new set of spot lights in the temporary exhibition area at a cost of 1000 Euro approx. Thanks to Tony Fitzgerald for organising this and a special thanks to all those who sent donations, supported our book sales etc to help defray the costs. The lights in the main area should be erected before the end of the summer. ============================================== 3. New Web-site Articles ============================================== Both articles below can be found by clicking on exhibitions at www.dungarvanmuseum.org A Brief History of Mountain Castle Mountain Castle, or as it is presently know The Castle Country House, was constructed in the first half of the 16th Century by the McGrath family, one of the two Gaelic families that held lands in this county before the arrival of Cromwell. They are published in Fitzpatrick, Thomas, Waterford During The Civil War (1641-1653), Downey and Co. Publishers, (Waterford, 1912). 2. Dr Con Power
    3. For years, I have been trying without success to definitively trace the records of my paternal great-grandparents, Matthew and Ellen Power of County Waterford. I have now found the following deaths on the website of Waterford County Council and I wonder if there may be any connection. [1] Matthew Power, a farmer of Knockinduff, died of senile decay on 22nd December 1875, age 80 years. His death was subsequently registered by his widow, Ellen Power, who was present at death. [2] Ellen Power, widow, of Knockinduff, died of senile decay on 11th November 1881, age 80 years. Her death was subsequently registered by Ellen Lynch, present at death. Incidentally, my grandfather, William Power, son of Matthew and Ellen Power, was born in County Waterford on 11th November 1846. I look forward to hearing from anybody who might know anything of the Matthew Power or the Ellen Power of Knockinduff, mentioned above. Thanks for your help. Dr Con Power
