Hello I'm trying to track down a Nugent family who emigrated from Rathgormuck (near Carrick-on-Suir) Co.Waterford to Canada in the early 1800s. The only information I have is that John Nugent (d.o.b. approx. 1850) a brother of my greatgrandmother went to live with his fathers brother (Christian name unknown) and family in Canada about 1867. John died during his first winter there. I have no idea where in Canada they lived. Johns parents were Patrick Nugent (emigrated to Australia in 1867), and Ellen O'Gorman (who never left Ireland). Johns grandparents were John Nugent and Catherine Curry. Apart from the usual Irish Christian names, this Nugent family uses the relatively uncommon names of Richard and David. Any information about the family and descendants, or how to track down a Death Certificate for John, would be greatly appreciated. Mick Dowling Melbourne Australia

Dear Listers, I am wondering i SKS on the list would be able to do a birth and marriage look up for me please??. I am looking for the Birth of Frances Elizabeth Glendinning who was born, Kingston, Ireland.. could have been Dun Leare ( sorry about spelling)...around 1877/8 She married Albert SAYER who was born Bergh Apton,Nofrfolk. and he was in the royal marines.. On the 1901 census, they were living Chelsea, London. We think they were marr around 1895?.... any help would br so appreciated. thank you, sandra.
Listers, My great grandfather's sister was Anna PROSSER. In 1857 she married Simon Max PROSSOR, a bacon curer of Waterford, reportedly a distant cousin. The couple had seven surviving children: Robert Simon Max, Joseph, Susan, Thomas, Anna Mary, Meta and Marcus...all Prossors, of course. This has been a challenging search, particularly since most people didn't care about name spelling accuracy in the first place! A Prossor descendant and I are trying to establish this "distant cousin" theory. Do any of these names ring bells with Waterford researchers? Joanne Prosser Callender Tucson AZ
I have traced a Michael Power, Port Pilot, in the Minute Books of the Pilot and Ballast Committee of Waterford Harbour Commissioners. 1.. The first reference I found to him was in March 1848 as a second class pilot (the Minute Books for 1836 to 1847, inclusive, are missing from the collection of records in the Irish National Archives in Dublin so that I do not know when Michael Power became a Pilot). 2.. I traced his promotion after recommendation and examination to first class pilot from July 1850, and he continued in that position up to January 1859. 3.. Michael Power became ill in February 1859 and he is recorded only occasionally as an "extra pilot" for the balance of the year 1859 and during the years 1860 to 1862, inclusive. 4.. I found Michael Power on the Superannuation Register of the Waterford Harbour Commissioners in 1866. My great-grandfather [father of my grandmother, Mary Ellen Power] was Michael Power, born in Waterford on 19th August 1823. His occupation was given as "pilot" on the Australian marriage certificates of his daughter, Elizabeth Power on 10th September 1887, and his daughter, Ellen Bridget Power on 29th July 1893. His occupation was also given as "pilot" on the Australian death certificate of his daughter, Elizabeth MacDougall (nee Power) on 27th August 1937. Could "my" Michael Power be the same as the Michael Power mentioned above? I would like to hear from anybody who recognises the above Michael Power. As well as my grandmother and the two other daughters named above, "my" Michael Power had a son, Henry Power, born in Waterford on 16th April 1857 when the family lived at Spring Garden Alley, Waterford. I am hoping that I might be able to trace descendants of this Henry Power. Thanks and regards Dr Con Power

I know that not long ago someone posted something about the Power family. I just received a copy of the newsletter, The Septs, and in it is a surname list and there is someone researching the Power family in Cork/Waterford. If you contact me, I will give you the email address of that person. I don't know that I should post it in the forum or not. So contact me privately: [email protected] Judy
John GADSDEN resided in Waterford City from ca 1825. A Londoner by birth, he and his two brothers settled in Waterford, all bringing wives & families with them, and bapt records of further children born to them in Waterford up to 1842 have been found. Indications are that John died in Waterford August 1853. Is there any way of searching Irish probate records online (I'm in South Africa)? Thinking that as an Englishman living in Ireland his will may have been proved in PCC but searches turned up nothing so far. Would it have been likely that John's will would occur in both Irish & English probate records? Thank you for any advice. Regards, Rosemary Dixon-Smith Natal Ancestry Research [email protected]

I only know they came from Ireland. John Power, born 1 Jun 1817 to Patrick Power and Catherine Butler. John married Margaret Molony 8 Nov 1842 in Quebec. Parents of Margaret were Thomas and Bridget Lahy. Margaret was born 10 Feb 1815. I calculated the birth dates from their dates of death in Ohio. Additional info: Margaret may have had a brother named Patrick Molony born abt. 1828; John Power may have had a brother named Thomas born abt. 1820. Dr. Power....do you have any of the above names? Some time ago, whilst trying to identify relevant parishes for pre-1864 records, I acquired a Church of Ireland Directory, which was very helpful. However, it transpires that my ancestors were all Catholics and I wondered if anyone knew of a similar Directory of Catholic Churches. Sheila Bransfield MA FRGS
I am particularly interested in making contact with anybody who might recognise the following family, particularly the RICHARD POWER who was baptised in Ballybricken Church, Waterford, on 6th November 1832. MY GREAT-GREAT-GRANDPARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN Waterford Heritage Services traced the parents of my great-grandfather, Michael Power, as William Power and Mary Feeley (my great-great-grandparents) (otherwise Fiely, Feely, Fieldy or Fielding). William Power and Mary Feeley were married in Ballybricken Church, Waterford, on 11th August 1822. The witnesses were Edmund Henebry and Johanna Currin and the priest was Rev P Quirk. Mary Power (nee Feeley) is buried in the Power grave in Ballybricken with, among others, her sons Michael and David (full details of that grave are given elsewhere in this document). The children of William and Mary Power were: - (1) Michael Power [my great-grandfather] baptised in Ballybricken on 19th August 1823. The sponsors were John Power and Ellen Fitzgerald. The priest was Rev M Phelan. (2) Patrick Power baptised in Ballybricken on 26th February 1827. The sponsors were Edward Kennedy and Mary Power. The priest was Rev P Morrissey. There was only 1 Patrick Power in the British Census 1881 who had been born in Ireland in 1827. Could this be he? The Patrick Power in 1881 was a Catholic Priest, Rev Patrick Power, 30 West Road, Congelton, Cheshire, England. He was described as the Head of Household, age 54 years, born in Ireland. He lived with his housekeeper, Emily Galighan, single, age 30 years, also born in Ireland. (3) David Power later known as David Feeley Power baptised in Ballybricken on 29th July 1829. The sponsors were William Murry and Ellen Power. The priest was Rev Edmund Power. (4) Richard Power baptised in Ballybricken on 6th November 1832. The sponsors were Michael Daley and Anastatia Butler. The priest was Rev M Burke. There was only 1 Richard Power in the British Census 1881 who had been born in Ireland in 1832. Could this be he? The Richard Power in 1881 lived at 55A Chapman Street, Hulme, Lancashire, England. He was the Head of Household, age 49 years, born in Ireland. By trade, he was a Boot Closer. His wife, Julia Power, age 47 years was also born in Ireland. They had 3 children, all born in Manchester, England - (i) Edward P, age 19 years, a Boot Closer, (ii) Margaret M, age 16 years, scholar, and (iii) Josephine, age 12 years, scholar. They had three lodgers, Arthur Crowther, age 29, English, a Commercial Clerk, with his wife, Alice age 23, and their son George E age 9 months. (5) Johanna Power baptised in Ballybricken on 23rd July 1835. The sponsors were John Broder and Joan Moran and the priest was Rev M Burke. She was not in the British Census 1881. (6) Brigid Power baptised in Ballybricken on 13th September 1836. The sponsors were John Galavan and Mary Keeffe and the priest was Rev Edmund Larkin. (7) Brigid Power baptised in Ballybricken on 26th September 1843 (the Bridget of 13th September 1836 obviously died young and it was not unusual to give another child the same name in those circumstances). The sponsors were William Doyle and Mary Brien and the priest was Rev P Kent. She was not in the British Census 1881. Regards Dr Con Power
