This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Shane and Jones in the Spokane area. It is, after all, quite public once it's been printed in the newspaper. So, here is what there is: City directories appear to have Jacob Shumaker not in the city of Spokane until 1969 (though he could have been here earlier, and just not listed). He resided at W. 22 1/2 Main, 99201, in 1969, 1970, 1971. This was the location of the Lewis Hotel. There is no listing in the city directory for him after 1971. Death notice in the Spokane Dailey Chronicle, April 10, 1973, states that he entered into rest in Spokane on April 8. His home, W. 300 Trent. There is no listing in the city directory for that address, though it does have listings for 301 1/2, and other corresponding street numbers. This would also be in the 99201 zip code area. Funeral notice in The Spokane Daily Chronicale, April 12, 1973 states "Shumaker, Jacob L. His home, W. 300 Trent. Funeral services will be Friday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Flowers, Riplinger Funeral Home, N. 4305 Division St. Interment Fairmount Memorial Park." This was the one and only date on which a funeral notice was printed. What's interesting about Mr. Shumaker's obituary is that it does not list any survivors or relatives who preceeded in death. His last stated addresses in Spokane indicate perhaps a more transient lifestyle. If the Social Security Death Index indicates his last residence was at a 99204 zip code, perhaps he was receiving his mail and/or social security payments at a residence or P.O. box in that zip code area. City directories reflect that he was retired in those years listed. Hope you find this little bit helpful. Susan
