She was a native of Spokane, Wash. She was the first Sacramento woman to enlist in the service during World War II, and became a member of the first WAC class. Her first assignment was as an aide to Col. Overa Culp Hobby, head of the WAC, in Washington, D.C. She was stationed at Air Force Headquarters until 1945, when she was released by the military to the United Nations to work on the Disabled Persons Program in Frankfurt, Germany. Ms. Fait was responsible for placing many families of disabled persons in the United States after the war. She returned to Sacramento and worked in radio and television, producing the "Gene Nelson Show." In the 1950s, after working at the public information office at McClellan Air Force, she joined the Sacramento office of U.S. Employment Service. While there, she advised the Older Worker Program, which was adopted nationwide to provide opportunities in employment for workers over 45 years of age. She received widespread recognition for her accomplishments and after retiring in 1947 was appointed to the California Commission of Aging. She was later employed by her brother, Harrison H. Fait, who operated an adobe brick plant on Howe Avenue, delivering bricks to building sites. This was not an usually activity for a woman who, as a teenager, hitchhiked throughout the United States and later repeated the trip on a motorcycle. After retiring, she purchased a home in El Dorado Hills and became active in public affairs there and in Folsom. She was a longtime friend of Ruth Ward of El Dorado Hills and aunt of Glenn Fait of Folsom. Services are pending. Green Valley Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
