Dennie, Ph.D., died on July 18, 2001, at a care facility in Woodland. Born on July 7, 1921, in Spokane, Wash., he was 80 years old. He graduated from Fairfield High School and Eastern Washington State College. He received his master's and doctorate in psychology from the University of Nebraska. He farmed in eastern Washington for 25 years and had a private practice in counseling in Spokane for more than 10 years. He was also director of counseling services at Lutheran Social Services and served on the sanity commission board at Eastern Washington State Hospital before he retired in 1993. He lived in Woodland for the last three years of his life. He was active in community affairs, Toastmasters' International and the Inland Empire Appaloosa Club. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Fairfield and in Spokane. He loved sports (especially baseball and the Baltimore Orioles and Nebraska football), wildlife, physical fitness, reading and American political history. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Claudia; three daughters, Lynn of Honolulu, Jan and her husband Daniel Gordon of San Luis Obispo, and Gail and her husband James Huttlinger of Sacramento; and two sons, Bruce and his wife Angie Dennie of Woodland, and Douglas and his wife Jane Yung Dennie of Bellevue, Wash. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rick and Veronica Gordon of San Luis Obispo, and Emma and Faith Dennie of Woodland, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Hal Dennie, of Spokane. A memorial service will be in October in Spokane and private inurnment will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Rockford, Wash. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity or to one of the following charities: Zion Lutheran Church in Fairfield, WA 99012; Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8304 East Buckeye, Spokane, WA 99212; or the American Parkinson Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Blvd., #4B, Staten Island, NY 10305-1946.
