It was the largest railroad yard west of Minneapolis. At one time more than 6000 men worked at that yard. The towns boundaries were Francis on the north, Crestline on the West, South Ave on the South and the Railroad yards on the East. In 1925 the city of Spokane annexed all of Hillyard, and renamed South Avenue to Wellesley. The closest cemetery is north of Francis along Market, and is called Evergreen Cemetery, it is pretty mych deserted and overgrown now days. Charles whose grandfather was one of the 6000 men working at the yards.
