Goldie Hornsby is a lost relative that we have always wondered about. She is the daughter of my great grandmother, Arimenta Olive Hornsby. She was born in West Virginia about 1900 (give or take a few years) out of wedlock before Arimenta married James Alexander (Alec) WOOD about 1906 after the death of his first wife, Eliza Farley. About 1912, they moved to Missouri, then on to Sandpoint, Idaho, then to Oregon and back to WV in about 1919. Goldie Hornsby or Wood (I don't know which name she used) stayed out west with a sister Ora Wood. Ora's marriage is in Sandpoint, Idaho 1917. Goldie was supposed to have married a Dalton and moved to Vancouver British Columbia Canada. I have no date but suspect it would have been between 1915-1919. During WWII (1940's), she wrote home needing proof of US citizenship to get back into the country. Granny got the postmaster to help her send it and she was never heard from again. We have always wondered about her and if she had a fami! ly so I started trying to see if I could find evidence of her. It is a mystery, I would love to solve. I have not even found her on a census here before they left. She should be on the 1910 Raleigh or Mercer County in the home of James and Arimenta Wood. This might give a closer birthdate. Here would be the facts relating to her: Goldie(might be a nickname) Hornsby born about 1900 to Arimenta Olive Hornsby who was unmarried Goldie became the step daughter of James Alexander "Alec" Wood in 1906 when he married Arimenta. Goldie lived in Sandpoint Idaho and may have married there about 1915-1919. She may have moved on to Oregon or Washington or Canada before marrying. She may have returned to the US in the 1940s. I found a Goldie Hornsby livining in Spokane Washington in 1920 census. She is living with a Forest McDonald. Here's the info that it has listed: 1920 Federal Census: Spokane Washington Altamount Precinct ED: 160 (3rd and 5th January 1920) Forest R McDonald --Head--white male---age:42--married--merchant--retail store Bernice R. --wife--white female--age: 29 Fransis--daughter of Forest McDonald Colline--daughter--of Forest McDonald 0Robert-son of Forest McDonald Charles H Riffe--father in law to Forest Laura L Riffe--mother in law to Forest Goldie Hornsby--Servant---white female---age: 18--single--born:Virginia ---Father born in Virginia mother born in Virginia--occupation: Maid in private residence.
Does anyone know of a Goldie Hornsby, born WV April 1, 1902, who is listed on the 1920 census in Spokane WA living as a servant in the home of Forest McDonald, a retail merchant. She is my great aunt. We think she married a Dalton and lived in Vancouver, BC. The family lost touch with her and we would love to know if she had a family. Any help would be greatly appreciated. She has two brothers and a sister still living. Thanks, Judy
