Surnames: Berger Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3BC.2ACE/2007 Message Board Post: Researchers may be interested in the tribute to Adam Berger in the Thursday, March 27, 2003 insert "North Side Voice," of the Spokesman-Review newspaper. For most of his life Adam Berger was surrounded by good food and the love of a large family. When he died recently, he had four children, nine stepchildren, 28 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Adam ran several restaurants and depended on help from his family to make them successful. He died February 9, 2003, at the age of 73. He was a 59-year resident of Spokane. Mr. Berger was born in 1929 on a farm in Taylor (Stark Co.) ND. After the death of his father, he moved to Spokane with his mother and four siblings, and the family settled in Peacefully Valley. When he was 14, Adam got a job washing dishes at the beautiful Davenport Hotel and walked to work each day. Chef Ray Jarbeaux took a liking to Berger and mentored him. Berger's two brother also worked at the hotel and were taught to cook by Jarbeaux. ! Berger worked at the Davenport for 17 years. He married his first wife, Shirley, in November 1950, and they had four daughters. Shirley died in 1978. Berger managed and owned several restaurants and married a second time, to Joann, a mother of nine children, in June 1979. Adam and Joann worked together, catered food, held four weddings and five wedding receptions at home for their children. They liked to camp. They wintered in Arizona. Adam's hobbies included golfing, bingo and wood-crafting, and he also worked with the Senior Nutrition Program for several years, serving meals to senior citizens. Joann shared, "I will miss him, he was my buddy and my best friend, we had a blast together." Adam will long be remembered for his friendliness, willingness to help others, his excellent cooking and his big smile.
Would someone be able to lookup an obituary for me, or in the Washington Death Index. Here's all the information that I know. Florence (ELLIS) GALLAGHER Born: Nov. 1888, Hickory Township, Butler Co., Kansas Died: About 1979 near Spokane, Spokane, Washington Florence's parents: James and Amanda (Moore) Ellis from Kansas Florence had a son by her first husband, _______WOOLM. I do not know her 2nd husband's name other then GALLAGHER. I do not know her exact date of death, either, but I was told it was a couple of years before her son in Kansas (WOOLM) died and I think I have located his death as being Jul 1981. However, that could be in error. Thanks for any help you can give me. I am willing to pay for copies and fees, please contact me.
