thanks to Verna, I have identified the hotel in downtown Spokane where the restaurant OASIS ROOM was in 1940s. Does anyone have more recent historical information on the fate of this hotel and restaurant or memories of such? Apparently there is a book named "Downtown Spokane Images 1930-1940" by Carolyn Nunemaker. Does anyone know of such a book? ...possibly about 1998. Maybe someone can tell me how to contact a Spokane historian? I would love a photo of the hotel and Oasis room. thanks Liz of BC
This hotel was owned then by the DESSERT family. I remember that JOANNE DESSERT was my "leader" when I was in the Campfire Girls. She was a pretty lady and fun to be with. I remember that the DESSERT'S built a mansion up on Rockview Dr. I wonder if the building is still there. The hotel building, I mean. Happy hunting! hi Verna and others, I just Googled <Joanne Dessert + Spokane>. and got an obit ...it seems the family was DESSERT and the hotel was DESERT!! always learning something with this genealogy!..liz
Gosh, sorry I mispelled the hotel and family name. After all, I left there in 1948. Have visited many time since I left. I was bn there and graduated from Lewis & Clark. My husband graduated from North Central. Do those two schools still have their rivalry? Anyway, thanks for the info. I will "google" just for the heck of it.
