I would imagine that the U.S. census takers wouldn't bother to distinguish much between English and Welsh! Maybe they traveled to Wales to bid goodbye to his family before they left for the U.S. and that is where Irene was born. There is a great English/Wales site where you can look up BMDs completely free of charge: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl I took a look for Irene's birth...but there were too many in 1905 to pinpoint her. Maybe you can do better. You can also look for Ann & Henry's marriage.
