Not even sure where I got that. Paul would be the son of Homer Herriott and Bonnie Lucinda Kelly. (You already know that I'm sure.) Bonnie b 4 Aug 1892, Elsmore, Allen Co, KS, d 14 May 1948, Stevensville, Ravalli Co, MT. Alternate birth year may be 1893. Married 1908. 1900 census in Sugar Loaf, Sebastian Co, Arkansas with her parents and brothers. 1910 in Holly, Prowers, CO, with her husband and father. The mother (Sarah Evelin Berry) died about 1906 - do you know where? Brothers George and Samuel are with a nearby Herriott family - probably in-laws. 1920 Bridger, Carbon Co, MT with kids 1930 Graybull, Big Horn Co, WY Bonnie's mother is Sarah E Berry, b 27 May 1855 Radnor, Peoria, IL, d 30 Nov 1906 (but I don't know where). Bonnie's father's death certificate lists him as James Jefferson Kelly, born 13 Aug 1854 in Terre Haute (family lore) or Tippicanoe, IN (family trees posted on Ancestry). Father listed as George W, mother unknown. He died 18 Aug 1924 in Red Lodge, Carbon Co, MT of heart failure after an automobile accident - no headstone. However, those same published trees list this man as REUBEN (or Ruben) Jefferson Kelly. This is how he is listed in the earliest census records. His marriage record lists RJ Kelly and SE Berry and doesn't list parents. The first two birth records list him as RJ or Reuben James, as does the Kansas State Census of 1985. Howver, by 1900, he was going by JJ or James Jefferson Kelly. Is this anything you had heard before? Any idea about the name change? Also, there is what appears to be the same person (JJ) in Kiowa Co, CO, in the 1920 census, with a wife Lucinda. Do you know if he had a second marriage? My friend Jan (descendant of Bonnie's brother Claud) actually talked to Minnie within the last week or so, and she wasn't able to provide much information. Bonnie's other brother Sam's second wife is still living, and Jan is going to contact her as well. Do you have a photo of Homer's headstone? I could try to get it next time I'm in the Stevensville area. Jan was going to go to the library and get Bonnie's obit to see if it had any info of value regarding the Reuben-James questions. I sent her an e-mail to see if she could get Homer as well. If she doesn't make it, I can go for you. Bonnie's grandfather is George W Kelly b 1822 d 1896, m Rebecca R Connell. If you search for him on Find-A-Grave (Kansas) and her (Illinois) you can see their gravestones. Hopefully some of this is new information for you. I'm hoping you have some clues regarding Sarah's death location, and Reuben-James name mystery. Do you have access to those census records I cited? Or would you like me to send them to you?
