Sterner, 82, Dies, Chattaroy Veteran Farmer Daily at Tasks Until Stricken a Week Ago with Ptomain Poisoning. Chattaroy, Wash. Sept. 9 - Reuben Sterner, age 82, who has been a resident here for 22 years, died at his home here at an early hour this morning, after a week's sickness from ptomain poisoning. Mr. Sterner was born near Pottsville, Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania, on July 9, 1837, and with his parents moved to Clarion county, Pennsylvania, several years later, where he resided until 1897, when he came to Washington. He was married to Mary Ashbaugh on December 20, 1860, who with nine children survives him. These are Mrs. Emma Ogden, Mrs. L. M. Patterson, H. Willis and C. U. Sterner of Chattaroy, Mrs. J. Jackson Wilson, Mrs. W. K. Vensel, Mrs. J. T. Krause and Dan L. Sterner of Spokane and J. J. Sterner of Moscow, Idaho. There are also 15 grand and nine great grandchildren. All the children except Mrs. J. T. Krause were present at the time of his death. Mr. Sterner became a member of the Reformed church at the age of 20 and led a Christian-life. Prior to this fatal illness Mr. Sterner could have been seen daily going about his garden and farming.
