    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: RBestrom7380 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.washington.counties.spokane/5772.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: 1900 Census Warner Lebacken, Oct 1889, ND Ruth, April 1894 ND I find a private family tree "Vettleson Hanson Family Tree" that identifies Warner Atlanter Lebacken, birth 1889 in ND. This tree is owned by "Vetley". So this is your tree. I find a Warner Atlanter Lebacken, died in Vallyview, Alberta, Canada (no further information). This was in a family tree owned by a "frostreavers" I sent a message via the system for this person to read this thread. He/she had not logged into the system for over six months. While this name "could" be a coincidence, it doesn't seem likely. In the book "Leaves Green and Gold : Weldon, Shannonville, Windermere (Saskatchewan). Page 324, in a biography of an Edwin Olsen: born in Minnesota in 1879 came to Canada in 1902, farming in Weldon, died in Weldon. Built three sawmills. The first, in partnership with Warner Lebacken was located near the headquarters building at Fort a La Corne. The second and third were across the river at Strong Pine and Twin Lakes. An Einar Haave worked three winters in the mid 1920's for at the Olsen and Lebacken sawmill on the Fort a la Crone Forest Reserve north of Kinistino. --While this Warner Lebacken "could" be another by the same name, it probably needs to be researched. I checked the Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS) for Vettleson, Lebacken, with no results. The 1920 Census for Spokane, Spokane Co, WA, enumerated 3 Jan Anna Vettleson... 50, wid... Ruth Swenkson, age 25, widow, born in North Dakota to father born in Minnesota, mother in Wisconsin. Clifton, 3 10/12, born in Canada to both parents born in North Dakota, immigrated in 1919, shown as "al" for alien. Juneus, age 2 3/12, born in Canada to both parents born in ND, immigrated in 1919, shown as "al". ---My question, is this Ruth, her daughter as shown in the 1900 census? She would be about the right age. The brother apparently went to Canada. It appears all went to Canada from Minnesota? Probably why they don't appear in the 1910 census? --Clifton was 3 10/12, based on enumeration date, he was born about March 1916; Juneus was born about Sep 1917. The name "Swenkson" is almost impossible to find, was the "k" wrong, making it "Swenson?" A review of the Spokane City Directories for 1920/before/after should be able to clear up that problem. The City Directories "Polks", are an annual publication of persons living in a populated area. Alphabetical, they show residents (spouse in later years) employment type, employer in some cases, employer addresses in some cases, home address. Unmarried females are also shown if adult/employed/etc. These directories could also identify when these people first appeared, then disappeared, IF there long enough to be found. I did quite a few searches in the 1930 census for Anna and Ruth, using first name only, with year of birth, plus/minus up to 5 years, no success. The problem with database searching in the 1930 census, place of birth of parents wasn't transcribed, place of birth of the person wasn't always transcribed. What additional information do you have? If you are related to these people, you must have some additional information that may help? If this person IS the correct daughter Ruth, do you know where she went, married, moved? Back to Canada? In 1900 Anna and children were living with her brother in New Solum, Marshall Co., Minnesota. Nikolai Dahl, head household, b. MN Jan 1874, single, farmer. Anna Lebacken, b. MN April 1868, sister, married, had given birth to four children but only two alive in 1900. Warner Lebacken, b. ND Oct 1889, nephew. Ruth Lebacken, b. ND, April 1894, neice. I didn't find anything for her in Ancestry, Washington State Digital Archives or FamilySearch with the Vettleson surname. Since she was 50 in 1920, I'm thinking she married again. You can contact the Spokane County Auditor, 509-477-2271 and ask them to look up their records and see if she married again. Also there is a volunteer at Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness who will look up marriage records at the Auditor's office. Successful Searching! The James Fitzgerald I am looking for might have lived in Seattle or Spokane in appproximately 1914 or so. This is an adoption story. My father-in-law was adopted in Spokane, WA. His adoptive mother said she would never tell him his biological parents. We do have a birth certificate. He was born to Ruth Adams and James Fitzgerall or Fitzgerald in the Crittendon Adoption Home in Dec 1914. Please e mail me at above. I look forward to sharing info.
