Do you have any of the exact birth dates? The Washington State Births 1891 - 1907 database includes at least nine births for Millers in Spokane in 1906 and 1907 without information on names of parents. My last thought is that perhaps Minnie gave birth to the children in another location; in my own family at that time, my grandmother traveled to give birth in the town where her parents lived. Just a thought. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There were two separate Conrad MILLER families in early Spokane census enumerations. The Conrad and Minnie MILLER family had children in Illinois before moving to Washington State. The Washington State Digital Archives site includes some Spokane births to a Minnie CLINE MILLER, but the father's name is given as Charles Grant MILLER. I wonder whether they were home births and not recorded? Have you also checked for them under the mother's maiden name? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: cmhansen Surnames: Miller Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.washington.counties.spokane/5783.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Gee I had no touble at all finding the death date for Conrad W. Miller at the digital archives, but his wife Mary or Marie Miller was like a needle in a haystack without other information on her. Since the obit for Conrad does not show being survived by his wife I guess she died before him. Birth Certificates for ALL of Washington state are on MICROFILM at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City for births from 1907 to 1954. Death Certificates are also there but from 1907 to 1961. Since ALL the Washington State marriages are online at the digital archives, you have two options, one, they did not get married in Washington State (Idaho is real close to Spokane and a lot of people cross the line to Idaho to get married), or two they did not use their correct names when they got married. Millie E. Congdon is my mother. (I am the older of two daughters born to Millie.) When Millie was alive, we thought the E stood for Estelle. In my ancestry research, I discovered, I think, that Millie's father was Albert Ray Endsley, leaving me to wonder if the E stood for Endsley. Just one of the mysteries I would love to resolve. So sorry it took me 5 years to reply. I hope you get this and are still working on ancestry. I took on several other very large projects after I posted the prior email and am only now getting back to my ancestry work. I have some Congdon census information. The Jacqueline Lenore Taylor side of the family is always a dead end for me, so if you have discovered anything else, I am anxious to hear about it. My father's family history is mapped back to the 1500s at this point but my mother's side (Joanne's mother's side) remains obsccure. Hello to Joanne--she's April to me and although I remember both names I don't remember the story behind the two names. Author: RBestrom7380 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.washington.counties.spokane/5779.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Last comments first: I know you have some of the information, your Ida May Fox death information was accurate. Your knowledge of Echo Fox was accurate, although it was the 1920 census versus the 1930. So, it appears you have some basic knowledge of THIS family. I don't believe the Thomas S. Fox buried in Pines Cemetery is the correct person in this family, you can see the research showing him to be a different individual. I don't know who Myrtle might be, but maybe attached to this person? There was a Myrtle W Fox, born 19 Jul 1888, died 11 Feb 1980, Spokane Co. BUT, I found the obit of Paul Woodruff (Gertrude's obit wasn't found [daughter of Fox]). This lead to the current address/phone of Richard Woodruff. Richard should be contacted about his knowledge of his mother, his aunt Ida, and if he knows where Thomas and Echo are buried. Echo had died before the 1930 Census in Idaho. For this family, it goes back to Juliaetta, Idaho. In another posting you were searching for the Bauer family, Henry and Alma. http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.washington.counties.spokane/5586/mb.ashx There is a Fox family connected to them. Is this the family of Thomas? I did no additional research on Thomas to determine his background. Additionally, Thomas was identified as being with/working with the Railroad in the 1920 and 1930 Census. "IF" he continued in this occupation after 1936, there "might" be a record of his service. BUT, I would first make contact with his descendants to determine their knowledge of him. IF they can identify where he is buried, there may be additional records with the cemetery or funeral home. An obituary could also identify additional records. My research: --------------------The Thomas S. Fox in Spokane--------- You identified he is buried in Pines Cemetery: http://www.interment.net/data/us/wa/spokane/pines/pines_f.htm shows a Thomas S. Fox, born 1873, died 1950. --The Washington Death Certificate Index shows this Thomas S. Fox, died 22 Oct 1950 in Spokane, age 77(1873), father Henry Fox, mother Sarah Brooks. --The 1880 Census shows this Thomas living w/Henry 49, and Sarah 48, age 7, born in TN, living in Round Prairie, Benton Co. Arkansas. Siblings: James 17; John 16; Hanah(as written) 14; Racheal(as written) Martha 10; Mary 5 ---The 1930 Census for Spangle, Spokane CO, WA at the Spokane County Infirmary, enumerated April 7/8: Thomas S. Fox, age 56(1873/1874), born in Tennessee to both parents born in TN, Married, first married at age 33. ---The 1920 Census for Greenacres, Spokane Co, WA Thomas S. Fox, born in TN to both parents born in TN Arrie E, wife, 34, born in Arkansas Children, Ruby, Dolly and Donald. This can not be the correct Thomas S. Fox, as the "correct" one (at least as identified by his family) is found below, in the 1930 census living with the Woodruff's in Idaho, enumerated on April 16th. It also shows him as a widower. The ages, places of birth, places of birth of the parents between this Thomas S. Fox and the "correct" one are also different. I do not believe this person to be the correct Thomas S. Fox. --For proof/disproving my allegation, I'd suggest obtaining an obituary on this person: -----The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx . For an obituary: http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/Obituaries.aspx Depending on the amount of requests, it could take up to a couple of weeks, or more. ----------------Thomas S. Fox in Idaho, the "Correct" one------ The 1920 Census for Juliaetta, Latah County, Idaho Thomas Fox, age 38(1881/1882) in Arkansas to father born in France, mother in Germany, helper/railway engines Echo, wife, age 27 (1892/1893) in Washington, to both parents born in TN Gertrude, 9(1910/1920), born in Idaho Ida, 8(1911/1912), born in Idaho --Census enumerated 22 January, so births were "probably" in the earlier listed year (unless born early in January). The 1910 Census for Juliaetta, Latah Co, Idaho Thomas Fox, age 27(1882/1883), born in IL, to father born Prus/German then above written "Sea" (born at sea?) to mother born Ger German. Employed as a Drayman/Juliaetta, married 11/12 in years. Echo, age 19(1890/1891), born in Washington to both parents born in TN. Ida Fluhman, sister-in-law, age 17, born in Idaho to both parents born in TN, married 1/12. --Census enumerated on 20 May, in the 1920 census, Thomas has aged 11 years, so his birth "might" have been in 1883, between 22 January(the 1920) and 20 May(the 1910). However Echo only aged 8 years between the 1910 and 1920, The Western States Marriage Index: http://abish.byui.edu/specialCollections/westernStates/search.cfm shows: --Gertrude Fox marriage to Paul Woodruff on 23 April 1927 in Lewiston, Nez Perce, Idaho. --Ida Fox marriage to Walter Ripley on 16 Sep 1930 in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co, ID (This may be another person having this name of Ida Fox; however, I couldn't find another one) The 1930 Census for Elk River, Clearwater Co, Idaho Paul Woodruff, age 21(1908/1909), born in Idaho to father born in TN, mother in the United States, Ripsaw Operator/Planing Mill Gertrude, age 19(1910/1911), born in ID to father born in Arkansas, mother in WA Dona(as written) M, age 2, born in ID Richard E(Earl? The name was crossed out), 8/12, ID, born about August 1929. Tom Fox, father, age 46(1883/1884), born in Arkansas to father born in Germany, mother in France, Section Man/Railroad, widower Ida M, sister, 18, born in ID. waitress. --Census enumerated April 16. --based on Tom being called "father" versus "father-in-law; and Ida being called "sister" versus "sister-in-law", I would "GUESS" Gertrude provided the information to the enumerator. --------------Gertrude Woodruff----------- The Social Security Death Index: --Gertrude A. Woodruff, born 15 May 1910, died 23 Oct 1998, "last residence" in Corvallis, Benton Co, OR. Her Social Security Number was issued in Washington in 1958. "Last residence" is not always where a person was actually living. --Paul E. Woodruff, born 17 March 1908, died 19 Oct 2002, "last residence" in Corvallis, Benton Co, OR. His SSN 536-05-0822 issued in WA before 1951. Paul's obit: Paul E. Woodruff Posted: Monday, October 21, 2002 12:00 am March 17, 1908 - Oct. 19, 2002 --Paul E. Woodruff of Corvallis died Saturday at Heart of the Valley Health Care Center. He was 94. --He was born to Roy Chester and Elmina Dyer Woodruff in Troy, Idaho, and lived most of his life in the Northwest, where he worked as a logger and mill worker. He later went to work for the Job Corps as a construction foreman until his retirement at age 55. --He married Gertrude Abigail Fox on April 23, 1927, in Lewiston, Idaho, and they were married 70 years until her death on Oct. 23, 1998. --He spent time in Honduras with his son and family before moving to Caldwell, Idaho, where he lived prior to coming to Corvallis. --He enjoyed gardening and reflexology. --He is survived by his son, Richard Woodruff, of Sun City West, Ariz.; brother, Patrick Woodruff of Lewiston, Idaho; sister, Darlene Lane of Lewiston, Idaho; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. --No visitation or services will be held. --Contributions can be made to the Benton Hospice Service in care of McHenry Funeral Home, 206 N.W. Fifth St., Corvallis, OR, 97330. It appears Dona/Donna had died by 2002. Richard is in Sun City West, Ariz. Use www.zabasearch.com to find Richard's address and phone number. I checked the Maricopa County, AZ, Assessor's database and found the address is correct, but unknown which phone number(s). Contact him about his family, and also the family of Ida. -----------Ida Goodwin------- The Social Security Death Index: Ida Goodwin, born 14 May 1911, died Sept 1982, "last residence" in Spokane Co. Her SSN issued in WA before 1951. Washington Death Index: Ida M. Goodwin, died 2 Sep 1982 in Spokane, born about 1911. --This actually was my starting point, your information was accurate.
