After your last message I was able to find the voter registration you sited as well, but the address is new. This polks directory sounds like my next step. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. For an obituary: http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/Obituaries.aspx It appears George died, was divorced, abandoned, between 1893 and 1898. His "widow" did marry one of George's partners in his insurance business. That, in itself, "could" have been the reason for the separation; however, I don't think he would have left his business. He was also not found in the US in the 1900 Census. The Spokane City Directories (Polks) could be reviewed to see when he disappeared. The Polks are an annual publication showing the residents in Spokane (and other cities). As example, would show: "Muloch, Geo (Clara), Geo Muloch and Company, res: 123 Main Street." However, in the 1890's, unless Clara was also employed, they did not list the name of the spouse. But, Clara could have been identified as "Clara [widow George] Muloch," IF she was a widow over a year or two. If no one from the Spokane area responds, you can contact a volunteer on the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness in Spokane: http://www.raogk.org/washingt4.htm For the Directories, contact a person that does public records-LIBRARY. The downtown has a genealogy area also. Obits for "common folk" were not as popular then. But, this guy was a business man, and once his death date is found, there "might" be a story about him. Obituaries back then were more of a story written by a reporter about the rich/famous, or infamous, or those that died in accident or homicidal. This news article of Jan 25 concerns a major fire in Spokane on Jan 24, 1898. http://www.gendisasters.com/data1/wa/fires/spokane-firejan1898.htm I can't find a listing of the deceased, but there is no indication he was among them. But, being an insurance salesman, he could have felt responsible for not covering his clients as he should have. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: RBestrom7380 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.washington.counties.spokane/5822.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: California Voter Register Registrations. 1962, Orange County, 70th District Mickey L. Swanbeck, 2409 Bern Lane, Santa Anna, SA-170 --1964, same address, also living at the same address is Mrs. Betty J. Swanbeck. Nevada Marriage Index: Mickey L. Swanbeck to Betty J. Hall, 4 Sep 1958 I did a bunch of other searches, death, birth, marriage, phone, property, general, etc, without success. Your leads: 1. Start with your father. Obtain his birth certificate. It should identify the names of his parents and at least their ages at that time. That might be where you found Mickey's birthdate, it might show his place of birth. The place of their marriage is also important. The certificate might identify number of other children; but you identify your father was the only one. If Swanbeck and Frankie were divorced, the divorce record "might" identify the reason (abandonment?), where he was living at the time. Was Swanbeck in the military and in Spokane at the time of your father's birth (IF your father was born in Spokane). Swanbeck would have been about 19 at the time of his birth, about 27 at the time of his marriage to this Betty Hall in 1958. So, it would be "possible" Swanbeck was living in Spokane. 2. The City Directories (Polks). They are an annual publication of residents in a populated area. They show names in alphabetical order, the name of the (spouse), type of employment, sometimes place of employment and their address. ALL persons having the same last name (Swanbeck/Kell*) should be checked to see if they are living at the same address. You could check around the year 1931. Find the name Marie/Mary Kell*. That would show the name of her husband (if married). Go forward to see when she becomes a Swanbeck...IF he was born there. The Spokane Polks should be reviewed starting at the year of your father's birth (IF he was born there). (Your info just indicates Swanbeck lived in Spokane, you did not say during what period, or if your father was born there...Important information). Look for Swanbeck. Going backward should identify how long Swanbeck lived in Spokane. When Frankie's name is shown as spouse, that will indicate about when they married, unless they both suddenly show up together (which will mean they came from somewhere else). Also check Frankie Brooks in the Polks to see when she is shown. Going forward will show when Swanbeck left the area, and if Frankie also disappeared or remained. Next the Polks need to be searched in Santa Anna/Orange County, California, from 1964 onward. That will show how long he stayed there. If a LONG time, also check for other same name at the same residence. That would probably be an employed (or in school) child. If he stayed there a LONG time and suddenly only his wife's name appears, then he may have died in that time period. If a short time, and her name is still found, he/they may have divorced. The marriage to Betty J Hall in Nevada. Have it researched to identify if his age was shown. That would probably be about the only good clue you could find as a lot of Californians go there for marriage... no waiting period. That is why I also checked marriages in Idaho, Spokane couples went there...no waiting period. 3. If it can be established from Polk records, marriage records to Frankie, that he was from Spokane, try finding which school he attended. I don't know where you live, probably CA, as I found your father's information. But, for research help, the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness has volunteers in Spokane County: http://www.raogk.org/washingt4.htm For the Polks, you would need someone that does Public Records-Library. For Marriage/Divorce records, you'd need Public Records-Courthouse. READ the guidelines FIRST. You can't ask more than one person at a time to research the SAME task. I am very new at this. Regarding Michael Leonard Patrick Swanbeck / Kelly. He was born a Kell*y and his Mother I think Marie ( no maiden name) remarried a Swanbeck. The new Husband adopted Marie's kids.I don't know of any siblings for Michael. I know that he was called Mickey not Michael, and that he lived in Spokane Washington. I don't know if he was born there. He was married to Frankie LaVon Brooks. I don't know if he is living or not. The only thing that I have been able to find is a marriage between a Mickey L Swanbeck and Betty J Hall on Sep 4 1958. This might be his second wife. Not sure. My Father is his only living child and he knows very little about him because Michael and Frankie were divorced when he as only a baby , one or two. My fathers name is Thomas Michael Swanbeck. If you could point me in the right direction to find anything, that would be great. Jamie Sibert Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. When you post it is very important to fully identify the person you seek, and what you know about them. Do you know his parents, siblings, spouse, children? Since he was born after the 1930 census, information about his parents and older siblings are more important. After birth, where did he live? Where did he die? Have you obtained his obituary? Here is a site that might help: http://www.tedpack.org/goodpost.html When you indicate his last name was Swanbeck OR Kelly, identify why he may have had two names...birth/then adoption? Are you seeking his birth parents? If so, such records would be sealed; however, there are ways to obtain them. Is there any of his children still living? If so, THEY would be the first source of information about him. Where he died would also be helpful. I did some initial searches without success. I have Flora's last husbane as Robert Franklin Ede, b. 19 Jun 1894 in Sierra Valley, Plumas, California, died 17 Jan 1972 in Spokane, Spokane, Washington. His obit makes it look like he married Flora after Harrison Semro died: Spokane Spokesman-Review, Wednesday, January 19, 1972 p. 18 Ede, Robert F - His home, E 816 Euclid. Survived by his wife, Flora Ede, at the home. 1 sister, Mrs. Bertha Nobs, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, 1 brother, Archie Ede, Ore. 1 Step-daughter, Mrs. Wardine Anderson, Spokane. 1 Step-son, Harrison W. Semro, Spokane. 2 nieces. A member of the Eagles Lodge, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Funeral services Thurs. Jan 20 at the Chapel of the Flowers of the Riplinger Funeral Home. Private interment Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hers is Spokane Spokesman-Review, Monday, August 4, 1980; p. 20 Ede, Flora B - Entered into rest August 1, 1980 in Spokane, WA. Her home Spokane. Survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wardin Anderson, Spokane, WA; one son, Bill Semro, Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren. Private funeral services were held with interment at Spokane Memorial Gardens, Riplinger Funeral Home in charge. They are buried together, probably; Interment.net has them in Spokane Mem. Gardens: Ede, Flora B, b. 1893, d. 1980, s/w Robert P, Eagles, G-L-S Ede, Robert P, b. 1894, d. 1972, Eagles, s/w Flora B, G-L-S (s/w = stone with, GLS = Garden of the Last Supper, a section of the gardens.) Contributed by Maggie Rail I have seen people listed twice on tombstone registries, once with the first spouse and no dates, once with the second, with dates. It is the result of buying a double stone and engraving both names on it when spouse #1 dies. The fact Wardine and Bill are step-children in his obituary, and her surname is Ede in hers, strongly suggests a marriage after Harrison. I'm not related. My daughter volunteered my services to her best friend as a wedding present. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The family moved to Wilson Creek, Washington about 1901 or 1902. Harrison married Flora on 17 May 1918 in Seattle. They had 2 children, Hazel Wardine (26 Jan 1920 - 25 Sep 1998) and Harrison William (15 Jul 1921 - 28 Sep 1985). Harrison Sn. died 9 Feb 1955 in Spokane. I'm sure Harrison is buried in Spokane, but I'm not sure which cemetery. I wasn't aware Flora remarried after Harrison died. I knew she was married for a short period before she married Harrison. Have you met your cousins (children or grandchildren of Hazel and Harrison Jr? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [WASPOKAN] Free Military Records

    3. Wouldn't it be nice to get free access to three centuries of American military records with more than 100 million names on file. Of course it would. And now you can, for a few days, at least. In honor of Veteran's Day, the entire military collection at Ancestry.com is available free of charge between November 11 and November 14. Just head to their site and click on See all Military Records to dive in. Want to see George Custer's or William Tecumseh Sherman's hand-written application letters to West Point? They're there! Looking to explore family history from the Revolutionary War, Civil War or any of the other conflicts that have involved United States fighting forces? This is the place to do it and, for a few days, anyway, do it at no charge. A very happy and proud Veteran's Day to all
