Thank You!! Thank You!!! This is her!!!! Yes, she is Margaret on the 1900 census (Minnesota). Then she is Martha on the 1910 census (Spokane) and still Martha in her brothers obit. That is why I've been looking for Martha. Her sister "Ella" (same 1900 census) is Helen on the 1910 census and remained Helen but then Ella is often a nickname for Helen. Thank you so much for going that extra step to help me out. You are an angel! ~Rebecca Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. All of the info you listed DOES pertain to her. She fudged a lot on dates and such. She contacted her mother (my gr grandmother) in 1940's needing proof of birth for US citizenship. After that, no one ever heard from her again. Perhaps, she was divorced in Spokane or somewhere out west. She had a sister that lived in Eugene, Oregon. Ben Dalton, the policeman, in Vancouver was listed as divorced when he died. She was married to him but I don't know how long. I am wondering if she married anyone else after leaving him or what may have become of her. It has always been a family mystery. I can give you all the info I have if you wish to try and look. judyprince@suddenlink.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There was an obit in the Seattle Times on 11-21-1968. I found this on the Genealogy Bank website. Johnson, Margaret 7610 Greenwood North. Mother of John, Goleta California. Sister of Paul Herman, Spokane. One granddaughter. Rosary Friday 7:30 P.M. Hoffners-Fisher-Kalfus Chapel. Requiem Mass Saturday 9 AM St. John's Church. Burial, Rest Lawn Cemetery, Edmonds. In the 1900 census in Minneapolis, Martha is listed as Margaret. Her birth date was given as Jan. 1898. Margaret Johnson is listed on the find a grave site at www.findagrave.com. Her birth year is listed as 1900. It may not be her, but you may be able to get more info by checking with the funeral home or cemetery. I hope it's her! Hi.....can anyone tell me if it is possible to obtain copies of a divorce that occurred in the 1970's in Spokane? Thanks.......Mary Lou
Yes The Spokane County Clerk has divorces back to about 1880. Another popular place for divorces if you do not find it in Spokane County is Lincoln county, and they have a great index at Davenport for their divorces. The SSDI stated her last known residence as Deer Park, Spokane Co., WA. I did not know if this was the Martha Johnson from my lineage and the info provided (via the previous posting) cleared that up. . .she was not the Martha Johnson I am looking for. Right now I'm just tracking down Martha Johnson's who were born about 1898 and died after 1961. My Martha Johnson is mentioned in one of her brother's obituaries (1961)and she was living in Seattle. She was originally from Spokane so there was a possibility that she returned to the Spokane area. I have info on Frank, Paul and Albert. I have info on Auguste. Richard disappeared after 1915. The mention in the obituary is the only info I have on Martha's married name. I do not know her husband's name. The surname may not even be correct. . .too many obituaries have misinformation. All I was looking for were the names of Martha Johnson (who died in Nov. 1966) parents, which I've now learned. Thank you for your input. Provide the date/place of birth for Martha and her brothers. If you don't know the exact dates, identify as much of a period as you can. Do you know "your" Martha's husband's name, names of any children? If they weren't from Spokane, when did they come here? http://www.tedpack.org/goodpost.html The 1930 Census: 217 Albert Herman's, 114 Martha's, 181 Paul, If Richard and Auguste were married before coming to the US, Auguste couldn't be found as a Schlagowski. There was an Auguste Schlagowski born about 1848, arrived from Germany on 13 June 1888 There are fewer Hermans listed in Washington State, but the would have had to have been in WA during the 1930 Census. There were Frank's, Albert's that died in Washington State, but impossible to identify if they were the correct persons. You identified a Martha Johnson with death in 1966, which was the wrong one. Do you know "your" Martha Johnson died in Washington, or in 1966? Repost with more specific information about them. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
