Hi....my boyfriend was born in Spokane in 1947.....I asked him about this and he said there were two hotels in downtown Spokane that he recalls....The Davenport Hotel in which he *thinks* the dining room was called "The Matador Room" and then there was The Ridpath Hotel...but he can't recall the name of the dining room. mary lou -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, 27 Apr 2007 9:06 AM Subject: Re: [WASPOKAN] hotel in Spokane 1940s? thanks to Verna, I have identified the hotel in downtown Spokane where the restaurant OASIS ROOM was in 1940s. Does anyone have more recent historical information on the fate of this hotel and restaurant or memories of such? Apparently there is a book named "Downtown Spokane Images 1930-1940" by Carolyn Nunemaker. Does anyone know of such a book? ...possibly about 1998. Maybe someone can tell me how to contact a Spokane historian? I would love a photo of the hotel and Oasis room. thanks Liz of BC
thanks Verna, at least I now know there was an OASIS restaurant..not dreaming?..liz
The "Oasis" was in the Dessert Hotel. I also liked that resturant. Was bn & raised in Spokane, but have been in CA. since 1947. hi, I am new to this list. I am trying to identify a restaurant in a hotel in Spokane [downtown as I recall] that my parents took me to in the 1940s. I believe it was a rather old hotel? or could be now? or could be gone? We were travelling from BC [entering via Kingsgate border crossing] and thru Coeur d'Alene..to Spokane and I was always promised a meal at this restaurant..[to get my poor parents thru "the desert" with a whining child!]....it had a childrens' menu in the form of a MASK. My childhood memory says it was called "THE OASIS" restaurant but this could be another spelling.?? I would really appreciate any help from those who remember Spokane in those days. thanks Liz of BC..
