    3. Hey, LC grads While you're here, check out what they have done to restore LC. To NC grads, sorry, that vintage building was taken down and replaced. FYI, the hospitality at The Davenport is as good as, if not better than, it was -- well since Louis quit running it, anyway. 3. I checked it out a year or so ago. The things I remember that were not now there were the fountain in the lobby with the gold fish. The fountain was always going, and the pipe organ that was on the balcony, I think. We often went there and sat in the balcony and listened to it being played after school or when shopping downtown. It had a wonderful sound. I had my wedding dinner in the dining room there 13 July 1940.......only 8 people as it was tail end of the depression and very few could afford big weddings, etc. It was such a great hotel, I am glad it has been restored. I remember after the end of WW11, a deligation from Russia was coming to US to see some of the atomic installations. Handord, WA. was one of them, and the Russians had requested that they stay at the Davenport while in E. WA. as they had heard of it and how beautiful it was. They came. They stayed at the Davenport. It always made me feel terrible when I would visit Spokane before the restoration and see it in such terrible condition. Just a bit of my memories of a great edidice. 3. The Book Downtown Spokane Images 1930-1940 has a lengthy piece on the Oasis Restaurant (and a photo of the interior), as well as a shorter piece on The Desert Hotel and its descendants. My scanner is not working right now, but if no one nearer has a copy of the book, I can photocopy the pages and mail them to you from here in France. I'll need your postal address. I would imagine that the U.S. census takers wouldn't bother to distinguish much between English and Welsh! Maybe they traveled to Wales to bid goodbye to his family before they left for the U.S. and that is where Irene was born. There is a great English/Wales site where you can look up BMDs completely free of charge: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl I took a look for Irene's birth...but there were too many in 1905 to pinpoint her. Maybe you can do better. You can also look for Ann & Henry's marriage. If you do find ones you think are them, there is a facility to send for certificates that will help take you back another generation on the marriage ones. mary lou Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Actually the Jerome is Irene. I also found them in the US/Canada Crossing in 1908. No, I sure don't know where in England the originated from, but acording to the manifest, Annie's father was Thomas James of Greenwich. I was told that Irene was born in Wales, so I am not to sure on that either now. Now I am trying to figure out how to get the copy of her death certificate that Mr. Hansen mentioned. Maybe the census takers goofed on age?both caroline and husband william dob is 1884/5 and they did move around the country a lot.Is it possible they could make 3 different censuses in same year if they were taken at different times? I have them married in 1907 in ohio and having ist child 1908 there.they werein wa in 1912 at birth of last son. She died somewhere c1914 .this is all confusing .
