Johnson built a beautiful farm house and barn abt. 1912 or 1913 one mile from Burroughs School. Please let me know if anyone knows of any history concerning my grandfather and grandmother. My grandmother's name was Hanna. My grandfather Amil was a builder and built very large homes in Spokane. It is quite possible he built more homes in Deer Park. Are there any Burroughs School photographs or records that my Aunt and Uncles could be in? My Uncle Mark "Roy" Johnson was born 1906, My other Uncle, Earl was born 1910 and My Aunt Lila was born 1908. Are there census records during that time of people living in Deer Park. The Great Northern reached Spokane about 1892, and the third transcontinental railroad reached Spokane in 1910 (the Milwaukee). Unfortunately if there is no citation of documentation behind them, they don't help much. This is why I wanted to start from an obit if possible. I've seen way too many erroneous family trees in the past. I'm trying to avoid creating or passing on another such tree. I have the information as to where he was living based on the 1920 census, which was listed as "Waverly Precinct." He's also buried in the Waverly Cemetery (with only the years of birth and death listed on the darned tombstone, apparently--but at least they were still readable so I have that much, thanks to a very nice transcriber), so I think it's pretty likely he died in that area. With the abysmal state of roads in this country until the 1930's WPA projects, we didn't make a habit of hauling bodies long distances for burials. ;-) I will follow up on the Norvel Walker-Jane Robertson tip to see if I can find any documentation behind the trees, but I'd still like an obit, if possible. Make sure that you have a good date of death. But it appears you only have a year, they probably would be hard pressed to find them in an hour. Unless someone spends time and finds success in microfilm of deaths in Washington, they also would be hard pressed to find them. I've checked the microfilms...they are often extremely difficult to read, often impossible due to the age and quality of the filming. Another point, obits quite common for everyone today, were not that common then. You identified he died in 1922 in the "Waverly Precinct". Is this based on where he was living as identified in the 1920 census? Or, do you have other information? The census is unclear if they owned or rented during that time (it's crossed out). I'm stuck trying to get his Walker line back further in Kentucky. I'm hoping an obituary for Joel Walker b. 1837 in Kentucky who died in 1922 in the Waverly Precinct area of Spokane, will help out. His wife was Mary M. Walker (maiden name uknown)1847-1928. Her obituary would also be helpful. At the least it might give us a maiden surname, and who knows?-- maybe parents names and birth county as well as state, also. My kinsman descends from Joel and Mary Walker through their son Henry Thomas (or Thomas Henry) Walker and his wife Martha A. Walker through their oldest daughter Ailith/Alith who married a Dashiell. Any help on the earlier parts of this Walker line are greatly appreciated. Cecilia L.
