Author: RBestrom7380 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.washington.counties.snohomish/5192.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Whenever you ask for an obit or information in a new Rootsweb message board, look at some of the past requests and answers. There might be hints on how to obtain obits. In this case, the following has been suggested many times: The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx . Since my information is sketchy, I have requested an obituary from the WA Library for this person myself, so that if this is the wrong person, you have not wasted YOUR time. This person is: Geneva M. Christensen, born 2 August 1912, died 17 April 1985, "last residence" in Longview, Cowlitz Co, WA. Today I received the obituary from the Washington State Library service. Longview Daily News, April 22, 1985, page B-2 Geneva M. Christensen Geneva Marie Christensen of 862 Eighth Ave., Longview, died April 17, 1985, at the age of 72 She was born Aug. 2, 1912, in Washington State and had lived in the area since 1971, coming from Oregon. She is survived by a nephew Larry E. Frankland of San Bruno, Calif., and a great-nephew, Donald Frankland of Seattle. Services took place Saturday at Green Hills Memorial Gardens with McVicker's Chapel on the Hill in charge of arrangements. --So, this person was born in Washington State, one correct criteria. Survived by a nephew, this nephew "could" be from her husband's(or former husband's) siblings versus her own. So, that continues the possibility. Green Hills Memorial Gardens, 1939 Mt. Brynion Road, Kelso, WA 98626 (360) 636-0540. -Also known as New Horizons Memorial Gardens - The transcription of the cemetery identifies: Cassie Christense(no "n" at the end, a typo?) 26 Oct 1965, died 23 June 1975 Geneva Marie (Neva) Christensen, 12 Aug 1912, 17 April 1985c --while not noted in the transcription, the "c" may indicate cremation. --the transcription by Caren Gimper, caren@knotzmade.com Yes, Cassie was a Christensen: June 24, 1975 Daily Chronicle (Centralia, WA) Horse drags girl to death Castle Rock, Wash (AP) A 9 year old girl was killed when dragged by a horse at her mother's farm southwest of Castle Rock, Monday The victim was identified as Cassie Lynn Christensen, daughter of Ive Marie Christensen of Castle Rock. Witnesses told Cowlitz County sheriff's deputies the girl wrapped a rope around her hand and was attempting to mount the horse when it suddenly bolted, dragging her around a field, across a driveway and through some trees before stopping in another field below. Larry Frankland, no records. Donald Frankland: Donald Frankland, 10814 131st Street NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98329 (no phone) Donald R. Frankland, born Feb 1963, 1645 272nd St, Kent, WA 98032 (253) 839-7042. As indicated in my previous message, this person is only a possibility based on her date of birth. But, if this person interests you, I'd suggest: --The Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness has volunteers in Cowlitz County. Read the guidelines first: http://www.raogk.com/washingt.htm I'd suggest Leona first. --Contacting the cemetery for any additional information. --contact the Caren Gimper, she may not have any information, but who knows. "Usually" people that do cemetery transcriptions don't have additional information. --Contact Donald Frankland to identify what her maiden name might have been. --The Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness has volunteers in Cowlitz County. Read the guidelines first: http://www.raogk.com/washingt.htm I'd suggest Leona first. Her death certificate should identify her maiden name; that is if anyone knew her maiden name. Before spending any money obtaining it, I'd suggest the above first. Leona might be able to obtain it, also any probate records in the Superior Court. Death Cert's: http://www.doh.wa.gov/EHSPHL/CHS/cert.htm There is a $20.00 fee, so, since this person is based on speculation, I'd wait for more information. I was hoping the obit would have enough information by itself to prove or disprove my theory..speculation. I still give her better than average possibility, based on first name, date of birth, place of birth (Washington). I'll look further if I can think of any other possibility from here. 2. Mike
    3. I am seeking help on Thomas ROWE and Kathleen Maud (nee ANDERSON). In the 1930 they were living in Everett with two sons. She migrated in 1925 so married after that most likely. Is anyone able to find their marriage and the birth of their sons (Thomas H & John D), please? I also believe there may have been others born after 1930. Any help gratefully received. Thanks Mike in a warm Whakatane NZ

The obit for Temperance A. Carmer, more info on Amasa/family: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.washington.counties.snohomish/1867.1/mb.ashx The GAR Cemetery listing has: Carmer Amasa W 89 Sept 21 1943 "Burial no; 2664 Late res; Snohomish WA." Carmer Inez Carmer Temperance E 80 Sept 14 1927 Carmer Thurman James 40 Dec 22 1930 Late res; Snohomish WA. --Note the year of death, 1943, does not match your posting year of 1942. --Inez ? http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-113D182/gbsearch/Deaths shows: Thurman James Carmer and Eliza Estes married on February 1, 1912, in Vancouver, British Columbia. You may already have this information, a copy of the marriage certificate for Charles A. Coburn and Geneva Carmer at: http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/default.aspx One of the witnesses was Miss Nora Coburn, the other is a Mrs A.E. Carlson --An image of Nora's marriage certificate for her marriage on 17 October 1931 to R. Russell Huston is also available. Witnesses Mrs Anna Carlson and Emil Carlson, Anna "probably" the same as witness for Charles. --The 1930 Census for Wenatchee, Chelan Co, WA, at 402 N. Garfield. R. Russell Huston, age 21 (1908/1909), son of James E (30 Sep 1880) and Mary V. Russell was born in North Dakota. Now, where did all these people go, and come from for that matter. I looked for both Nora and Charles in the 1930 census. There were 100 Charles Coburn in the 1930 Census. Of these, a Charles A. Coburn, in Missoula, MT, age 52 (1877/1878), born in New York, married to Hazel, age 32, daughter Helen L, age 10, born in Montana. He is very senior to be the husband of Geneva, but that happens. If Helen L was Helen Lenora/ Nora? I looked at all 100 and even with this wanted speculation, none really fit. I looked in Canada. I looked for any Nora/Lenora in the 1930 Census in Washington State. I found none, but she could have lived elsewhere until after the census. Charles A. could have been using his middle name. James Edward Huston died 23 January 1955 in Wenatchee, Chelan Co, Washington. I would suggest you request the obituary for James from the Washington State Library: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx Why? His obit "might" identify where his son R. Russell was living, thus that would connect "possibly" to Nora, and where they were living (if still alive and if still living). Once Nora is found, that might lead to Charles Coburn. It is a streach, but if it was my family, I would try it. I have found a recent "potential" for Geneva. If you are the Peggy Ogan living in Everett, then you've easy access to local records. If someone that actually lives in Wenatchee would do some local record searches that might help. The Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness only has one volunteer, http://www.raogk.com/washingt.htm Is there a competent genealogist in Wenatchee that can help?
