Fulton to Robert W and Bernice Hammond on 5/24/1978. No other information on her. Sometimes a parent will transfer property to a child. In this case, it appears Bernice was born in 1928. A family tree posted by hfulton143 has her identified. She was born 1898 in Bloomington, Muscatine Co, IA. She married Thomas Malachi Fulton, born June 1891 in Kansas City, Missouri and died 2 June 1962 in Edmonds. They had a son, "living". This person shows parents as unknown. Based on the limited information, this person could be a member of the Fulton family in Washington State. In a second family tree by the same person, the mother is identified as Flora Edna Kent. John Fordham is father to George, Harlan Lemoine, Kenneth and Lois. An unknown spouse was father to Hildreth Leola Fordham born 1893. I don't know if this person has any more information than provided online, but I sent a contact request for this person to read this thread and respond. The potential problem of finding a "full obit" is someone paying for it. Obituaries are not automatic. Many of the senior elderly pass and no obituaries are published. Many of these do not have living family. Of those that do, they feel an obituary is published to let friends or family in the newspaper circulation area know of the passing. If they feel no one would know the person, they elect to not pay the fee. That is just one reason for the newspaper's going into bankruptcy the past few years. (Another is the free Internet advertising). Now, with that said: The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx . Now, when you ask, "interested in anyone related to the family"; what do you know about her? The Social Security Death Index shows she was born 5 Jan 1898. Her SSN was issued in Iowa in 1951. Her "last residence" was in Edmonds (But the "last residence" on the SSDI is not always where they actually lived). She is not shown in any of the US Census under the name of Fulton. The 1930 Census has 1,307 women with that first name. When you post an inquiry for a person, identify as much as you can about them. The Date of Birth, place of birth, maiden name is extremely important. If you don't have that, can you identify the parents names, siblings, where they lived, who they married and ANY time line really helps. Repost what you may know about this person and see what can be found. Have you looked yourself in the US Census images or other databases? If there was a mine associated with the zinc company, it might be listed in the Snohomish County Auditor's Mining Claim Records, which run from 1871 through 1972. The early records (1871-1890) are self indexed, but there is an index on file for the later ones, according to the description of collections at the Washington State Archives Northwest Regional center. You might want to contact the state archives on-line to ask about business licenses since they specialize in county and state records from way back when. I know that they have all the old Snohomish County records. I know nothing about the Pioneer Home other than that it is printed on the 1910 plat map just between Rowan and Hazel on the way to Darrington. I got to thinking in the middle of the night that perhaps it could be the name of a hotel. I think I should try ancestry.com census records. I think I can put in 'key words' and see if anything comes up. In the meantime, just waiting for the State Archives to respond. Will let you know what they say. More details please. I'm looking for mining areas circa 1910 as the carved map will reflect industries along the Stilly River watershed for that time period. I'd like to put a mining symbol of some sort wherever mining was occurring along both the north and south forks of the Stilly. So, I should put one above Hazel area, and where else?? I did look through the 1909/10/12 Snohomish County directories (we have an almost complete set at the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society's library in Arlington) but only saw mines listed for areas along the south fork like Silverton, Gold Basin, and Monte Cristo. If you can give me some more details I can follow up on them. I was told that there was mining north of Trafton too but have not been able to verify it. I am particularly looking for info on the 1910 time period. If the mines were much earlier, I would not have that indicated on the map. The same goes for mining into the 1920s. E-mailed Dave last night. By the way, I noticed on the Snohomish County GenWeb site that there are all sorts of volunteers doing cemetery headstone readings. I hesitate to say this because of all the hard work they are doing, but our genealogical society has already done much of this work in the northern part of the county and has them in print. It's possible, since books aren't selling like they used to, that our society would allow this information to be posted on the web site. Just something to think about. I really hate to see these hard working volunteers reinventing the wheel! Michelle: This is REALLY interesting! I had never even heard of a zinc plant... Fred Kruger may be your man again. Jordan would be within "his area." & also he is VERY knowledgeable about MAP(S) in general & specifically area map(S). The Granite Falls Historical Society Museum has a fantastic map computer program & a giant printer that can make unbelievable pics & maps etc. So they come out super & Fred is VERY VERY much into his maps. He just made 3 for me... Did you get an e-mail from him about maps & your mill ?'s? If not, let me know & I'll send you the info. he sent me about them. Now I have some questions... Shouldn't there be some kind of business "licenses" or listing of companies somewhere? Some kind of business incorporation papers that would need to be filed? Where would they be if there was? County? I've never done any "court house diving"; so I don't know what all kinds of things you could find there. Can you give me any more info on the pioneer home ? Names? etc. I can do some checking & ask some people. You are finding all sorts of fantastic tid bits about the area! Great work!!! ( & a lot of it...) Good morning! What a FASCINATING thread! I didn't notice if anyone mentioned asking David Dilgard at the Everett Public Library's Northwest Room about these early SnoCo businesses/mines etc. Over the years, I've learned that if Dave doesn't know something about our county, he can usually suggest other places to search or folks to ask. The Northwest Room at the EPL is a major resource - we are so lucky to have EPL-NWR practically in our backyards! Regards to you all... Marge
Did not find anything specific on ancestry although it was obvious that there were boarding homes in the Hazel area. I even found one boarder who was a gold miner! I had heard that there were small mining operations in the area but this is the first proof that I've found. Michele On Feb 26, 2009, at 10:50 AM, patches@dreamingcrow.com wrote: > thanks. I goofed; it's called Washington Zinc Company. I did e-mail Fred K. last night but my e-mail bounced back to me, so I resent it directly to the Granite Falls Museum. Can someone tell me where Jim Creek Lumber Company was located? They were in business 1904 to 1934. Jim Creek is east of Arlington. Also, can someone tell me where Summit Mill/Shingle Mill was located, circa 1904-1910. One source puts it in the town of Lakewood but another source says Arlington. Thanks. Michele

I am just starting putting to paper this side of the family. All I know about Ellen is she had 2 brothers, Daniel & Michael George Washington Flynn born in Tralee, Ireland. They settled in Washington D.C. and were proceeded by 2 uncles (names unknown) who were painters. This is not much info and I would appreciate any information you could share. Thanks.......Dan Siegel Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Don't waste your time looking at: http://www.accessgenealogy.com/cemetery/washington/snohomish_county.htm The Link doesn't work. Interment.net, http://interment.net/us/wa/snohomish.htm . Does not have his grave. Bottom line: www.findagrave.com does have his grave: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=wade&GSfn=roy&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=in&GSst=50&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=17518995& --He is in the Arlington Municipal Cemetery. I do NOT post a bunch of links that I haven't check to even see if they worked. For his OBIT: First: The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx . Second, for more information, possible secondary source for a death certificate: Go to http://198.238.192.100/ Click on Public Records Under party name, click on Wade, Roy. Click on Search. You will see 39 records under his name and that of Alice M. Unfortunately, Snohomish County is one of those few counties that don't have the actual document online. But on page 4, you will find his Death Certifcate filed. You may be able to obtain it from the county. --This also shows his wife was Alice M. Under her name is a Deed transfer in November 2000, this document is online. This property was identified as being 14228 77th Ave NE, Arlington, WA. That was where Roy and Alice lived. But this was a sale of that property to another person. www.zabasearch.com has an Alice M. Wade living VERY close to the other address, at 14630 81st Ave NE. Death certificate you can order one though: http://www.doh.wa.gov/EHSPHL/CHS/cert.htm#OrderingThroughCHS Ron Bestrom Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Obtain his obituary. If published it may identify any family members, the names of his children, etc. Use them as potential contacts. They may have photo's of the old place, the house, etc. ---The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. The recording dates of June 26, 1975, indicates when the property was probably divided from a larger property. Your house was built in 1977. I would suggest the county Assessors office for more information on the original ownership of your property. http://www1.co.snohomish.wa.us/Departments/Assessor/ Any of the original "agreements" "may" also be on file at that office. You don't have a stipulation on your own property record concerning that agreement. The Assessor's office may be able to provide old plat maps. But, since you are in Snohomish County and the aerial photo shows even this area is highly dense, they may not have much time to research for you. There certainly isn't much land today that hasn't been converted into housing. It is a nice wooded area near your residence, the May's Park. I can't tell from the aerial photo what's beneath the trees. At least you don't live near those high tension power lines. 2. Your property is in the Olympus 1 - Division No 4, Volume 36 of Plats. At least you don't live near those high tension power lines. For an aerial photo of your property, go to www.mapquest.com, enter your property address and switch to Aerial. For a topo map, go to: http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/trs-data.html Change the state to Washington. Enter 27 as Township, 05 as Range, and 8 as Section. After the first window (you can see some of the area places), click on "Switch to Terra Server" In TerraServer, you'll first see an older aerial map (2002), you can zoom in or out to see your street, etc. I'd suggest clicking on the largest block for Size. When you finish the aerial map, click on Topo Map. Making sure you are in the largest block for size. Find "Winter " and the 527 in red and circled in red. You'll see that area is enclosed in a red block. Click inside the red block to the right of that block. Now click on that block again. Now, you will see a red 8 in the middle. This is Section 8 where your home is located. Unfortunately, there are no older plat maps online. Your local library may have old plat maps. They may have an old photo section. Some libraries, like the Tacoma library near me, has an area just for genealogy records and books relating to local history, etc. Sounds like an interesting project.
