If you contact the Museum, be sure to ask for the curator. If they can't answer your question, then I'd contact the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society, www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wasigs/index.htm . They might consider your question as research and charge a fee. Successful Searching! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. The Snohomish County birth record for Datus Morton shows that he was the illegitimate son of Henry C. Morton, 58 and Hallie F Betts, 35. The birth was reported by Mrs. Martha Betts, a possible relative. I don't find Henry C Morton or the Betts family in the 1900 census. This info from www.digitalarchives.wa.gov I also find Datus Morton as stepson living with Martha (previously Betts and informer on birth certificate) married for 1 year and 6 months in her second marriage to O S Sanders living in the Wallace Pct of Snohomish County. The mother is no where near them in the census (that I can find). There is quite an extensive military records file on Stillman Otis Sanders on the same site as listed above. She applied for a pension and admission to the Soldier's Home in Retsil. Not sure what happened to Datus..., but sounds interesting. Synopsis and record: Datus Morton is listed on the record as being illegitimate. 6th child born to mother. Mother born in Fairbanks, Iowa. Father is 58 at last birthday, Father is a blacksmith. Born in Onadoga, New York. Reported on February 21 1898 by Mrs. Martha Betts, on the line for M. D. Datus S. Morton - Henry C. Morton - Hallie F. 3. Hello Sharon, I have a scan of the 1919-1920 Everett Polk Directory and it shows: Pg 537: Granite Stables (Herman and Peter W Poolman, Alfred Pearson), Auto Truck Freight Service, Daily Trips BetweenEverett and Granite Falls, Household Moving, All Kinds of Teaming, Wood and Coal, Everett Office 2120 Hewitt Av If you email me offline I can send you a scan of the Polk Directory page - lacquer@comcast.net. I did not find "Granite Stables" in the 1930 Polk Directory. The Granite Falls Museum has a lot of photos and information online. You might contact them for an exact location and they might also be interested in obtaining a copy of the photos you have of your grandfather. Their web site is: http://www.gfhistory.org/ Thanks. 1. [WASNOHOM] Mary Ann Dougherty
    2. Diane K. Hettrick
    3. I'm chasing down my husband's gg-aunt, who moved around a lot - ok, didn't they all? Mary Ann Dougherty. She came to Puget Sound with her brothers John Francis and Bernard J. Dougherty. I'm not quite sure when they came to the area - it would have been between 1880, when she was in the census in Dubuque, Iowa, and October 1883 when John Francis Dougherty got married in Seattle and she was not a witness. Bernard Dougherty and Mary Barry were. (Mary & John Barry witnessed several early King County marriages). John Francis got married in Seattle, but there is no record of Mary Ann in the early King County marriages. When he got married, he was "John Dougherty of Island County". He was the bookkeeper at the sawmill at Utsaladdy at the far north of Camano Island. Bernard Dougherty was also at Utsaladdy. Mary Ann married a butcher named Henry T. Murray / Murry. So I would guess that she met Henry Murray at Utsaladdy, or wherever the nearest Catholic church was located. Mary Ann and Henry Murray were in Douglas County for the 1885 territorial census. Then they were in Whatcom County for a daughter's birth, 31 Jul 1891. I have John Francis and Bernard from birth to death - I'd like to have the same records for Mary Ann - and finding living cousins would be a real bonus. Diane Hettrick dhettrick@earthlink.net

    3. Hello, At www.digitalarchives.wa.gov his death shows under "Social Security Death Index - All other states," so I'm thinking that he didn't die in Washington. His SSDI record doesn't show a "death locality" either. I'm thinking that means that no one filed for the death benefit. All in all a bit mysterious... Thanks. 3. Snohomish County in the War pertains to those who served here in Snohomish County and over seas during World War I, so it's hard to say what it has about Sultan specifically. It seems to me that Sultan has an historical society. Why don't you google it and see what you find. Also, the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society has more information on the southern part of this county where Sultan is located. We specialize more or less in the northern half. 3. The book (Snohomish County In The War) that our genealogy society published contains an EVERY NAME index and is printed on acid free paper, etc. THe index alone is 40+ pages long. The used books are NOT indexed and are often in poor condition. Believe me, we checked this out thoroughly before we went to the trouble of indexing this book, a project that took a full year. 3. No offense taken. It's just that we got a lovely city grant to offset the cost of printing this book but genealogy books are just not selling like they used to. This was one of the larger sources of income in the past and went to help with rent, utilities, insurance, etc. to keep our genealogy library in Arlington open.
