I hope this is the same John that I am looking for as it is such a common name I have had a hard time tracking him not knowing for sure if I have found info on the right one. I can tell you this is what I do know about him. Birth date somewhere between 1835 and 1840, I think, his death date 04 Jun 1904. He is my Great Grandfather on my Mother's side, who is 91 yrs old, and the family story is he went to the Dakota's in the 1870's to look for gold and did send home $500 to his wife Mary Bradley Stafford and their 5 children - Thalmer ( my Grandfather), Linder, Lanth, Jesse, and Eda (or Eola) who were living in Nishnabotna MO at the time. He was never heard of again. Then this last spring I recieved a civil war pension on John Stafford of Sonohmish, WA and he talks about Mary and his children so I now know I have the right John Stafford but the trail goes cold from there. I do not truely know what happened to him after he left Missouri or how he got to Missouri prior to 1876 when he and Mary where married. I have the marriage record for he and Mary and his obituary along with the civil war record. Which I have included with this email I would love to hear about what you have and will be looking forward to your reply. Thank you for responding to my message board. I looked at the coin with a magnifying glass and it says "Con's Fruit Store" (not Stand). I checked the 1900 through 1930 census records for Snohomish County but didn't find anyone with the first or last name of "Con" who was a grocer or had anything to do with fruit. Perhaps this coin, which looks much like a penny, was from the 1940s?
