Did you "google" her? What's the chances that anyone else would have the same first middle and last name? Did you look for her on face book? Did you check her out on Classmates? Do you want high school she went to. I think these are better resouirces when you think you are looking for a living person rather than a genealogy list. Just my opinion and suggestions. Some of the below you have, posted it for the archives and so others can see what was found to not repeat the same searches. Also, once you contact the owner of the family tree having Orie Nortum, if it appears the family was originally from Norway, I would not be surprised. CA Death Index: Norman R. Slater, born 1/22/1909 in Washington, died 09/25/1974 in San Francisco. CA Birth Index: Robert Elmer Slater, born 10/28/1931, mothers maiden: Nortum, born in San Diego. Richard Lee Sater, born 21 May 1934, mothers maiden: Nortum, born in SD. The 1920 Census for South Snohomish, Snohomish County, WA Charles D. Slater, 59, born in Ohio Anna, 48, born in Wisconsin Eugene, 29, born in Washington Zelma, 22, WA Elmer, 19, WA Norman, 10, WA --In 1910, the family was in Snohomish Co, with an additional daughter: Retha, age 7; and Norman was "George B", age 1 3/12. The census was enumerated on 22 April 1910, so this age matches the 1/22/1909 date as identified above. So, either the name was given as George, or the enumerator made the mistake. At this point, I found your family tree posted, it confirms my findings. It shows Billie Nortum born 9 Aug 1912, died 13 Aug 2002 in Coos Bay. I ran just "Nortum" in the 1920 Census, only 17 of them, MOST were in Pennsylvania. Only one possible: The 1920 Census for Maltby, Snohomish County, WA Lucile Nortum, age 7, born in US to both parents born in US David Nortum, age 9, born in US to both parents born in US, both living as boarder in the home of: Armitage, Benj. F, 49, born in Iowa to both parents born in US, Farmer Millie E, 51?, born in Minnesota to both parents born in Norway. Kenneth E, 6, born in North Dakota --The 1930 census shows the Armitage family, but no others. A David Eugene Nortum died 26 August 1929 and is buried in the San Francisco National Cemetery, Section B, Site 600. He was a Seaman 2d Class, US Navy. If the same David, he would have been about 18. The 1910 Census for Seattle, King Co. WA. renting 4213 6th Ave. Orie A. Nortum, age 22, born in Pennsylvania, Laborer/on street, married 1 year Etta Jemshia?(as transcribed) 17, born in PA to both parents born in PA The 1930 Census for Maltby, Snohomish County, WA (City matches), owning on Knight Road. Orie A. Nortum, age 41, born in PA, to father born in Colorado, mother in PA, laborer/mill work. Divorced, first married age 21. Mae E. Stringer, 32, servant, married, Edward J and Opal P, her children. The 1930 Census for Grand Mound, Thurston County, WA Lucille Norheim(as transcribed), however, the handwriting "appears" to be Lucille Nortum, the dot over the "i" is to long to be a dot. But was it a slash for a "t", but missed? She is an Inmate, age 17, born in Washington to both parents born in Pennsylvania. The age is accurate, both parents born in PA is also meeting criteria. Not enough information to fully determine. The World War I Draft Registration Card image database has "Ovie" A. Nortum, born April 8th 1888 in Smicksburg, PA. Married and THREE children, living at 653 E. 43rd Street, Seattle. Works for the city. Washington Death Index has Orie A. Nortum, died 12 April 1973 in Snohomish County. The Washington Archives: http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/default.aspx has Orie A. Nortum marriage to Mary Ellen Stringer in 1931, Whatcom County. Witnesses were E.E. Oberlatz, and Lillian Pierce (No help here). An image is available online. There is a family tree posted that includes Orie, but no information posted online. Suggest you contact the owner for "potential" information. A second tree, the Nordheim-Emery, posted by "savedbyfaitha" shows Orie and Etta Rishel had 4 children, one a John Nortum born 1915, died 1985. The first two children were female, the second two were boys. The WA Death INdex shows John H. Nortum died 10 March 1985. It appears Orie and Etta were the parents, but not enough proof. I'd get the obits for those listed above. I'd contact the owner of the Nordheim-Emery tree. Our secretary of state's office has a free "Ask A Librarian" service at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask_form.aspx It may take a few weeks for them to answer, but hopefully there was an obituary in the Everett Herald. Tallman Sunday afternoon at Odd Fellows hall wee very simple, very impressive and of such a character as to markedly show the respect and regard in which the deceased was held by his fellow townspeople. Two members of the Commercial Club, which organization Mr. Tallman served faithfully in the capacity of secretary, were present in numbers, uniting with the old soldiers and ladies of the Relief Corps in paying honor and respect to the dead. Rev. Axel Sannelson, of Everett, conducted the services and was aided by the Congregational choir with Mrs. A.W. Burke at the piano. Mrs. S.B. Moore and Comrades J.H. Pownall each spoke for the Relief Corps and the G.A.R. and Mr. C.E. Ritchie, president of the Commercial Club, paid a glowing tribute to the memory of the deceased for the affectiouste regard in which he is held and for his continued efforts in behalf of the town. When the cortege left the hall on the way to th! e cemetery, the Monroe band played a funeral march as the people filed out. The pall bearers were; Mssrg. C.E. Ritchie, W.E. Mansford, E.T. Bascum, I.J. Oliver, L. L. Stephens and J.C. Falconer men who represent the highest citizenship of Monroe and vicinity. The death of Mr. Tallman is a severe blow, not only to the members of his family, but to a large circle of people who know well his generous, kindly disposition. The editor knew him as a man whose charity covered all things and all persons. He had little prejudice except for petty meanness's and real viciousness and he was blessed with a most sympathetic understanding of the troubles, faults and pains that enter so largely into life. Ephraim Stephen Tallman- he reversed his given names in later life-was born at Gerard, PA, on Oct, 14, 1839. He removed to Marine, MN, in 1852. He was married to Amanda Lawton in 1861 and came to Monroe in 1901, arriving on Thanksgiving Day. The couple had twelve children, four sons a! nd eight daughters, of whom nine are living, all in this vicinity exce pt a daughter whose home is in New York. Mr. Tallman was an energetic progressive pioneer of the early Middle West days and a citizen whose life affords a most worth example, as it was entirely at the service of his country and his fellow citizens and who ever performed the duty that lay to hand. He steadily went along from one position of honor and respect to another, doing his utmost to advance the conditions in the community in which he lived. As a soldier he was a member of 7th MN Infantry Co. C enlisting 8/1862 and being mustered out on 5/22/1865. Almost immediately after being sworn in the regiment was sent to Ft. Snelling to face the terrible outbreak of the Sioux. Indians. On Oct 7, 1863, the regiment was ordered south and was in the battle of Tupelo, the pursuit of Price, the oxford rain and at the battle of Nashville. Returning to his home in Minnesota after the war, Mr. Tallman at once took up the pursuit of peaceful projects and showed his energetic and pro! gressive character in starting the first newspaper in Kanabec county., also the first sawmill and the first shingle mill and the first flour mill. He served his country in different official capacities for many years, serving one term as country attorney, one term and surveyor, three terms as register of deeds and four terms as county auditor, giving to the county government eighteen years of his labor besides looking after his other enterprises. To the many kind friends who so willingly extended their offices during the time of our late bereavement we want to extend our most appreciative thanks. Especially we want to mention the members of the Monroe Commercial Club, the G.A.R. and the Relief Corps as well as the choir of the Congregational church. Mrs. S.E. When his health failed a few years ago he and Mrs. McFadgen ! went to the Soldiers home at Retsil, but for the past three years they have lived at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Root, who has cared for them with tender devotion. Mr. McFadgen leaves to mourn his loss the widow, son and daughter, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Evans undertaking parlors in Seattle, Rev. Adams, pastor of the Asbury M.E. church officiating. Miss Myrtle Huffendick sang his favorite hymns "Lead Kindly Light" and "Abide with Me," with harp accompaniment. Many beautiful flowers were in evidence. Monroe Monitor Friday 12/6/1929 Following a short period of Indispoaltion rather than sickness, Henry L. Marot, 85, died at the Snohomish general hospital early Monday morning. Funeral services were held from the Purdy & Sons chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. G.F. Hopkins officiating. Interment followed in the IOOF cemetery here. Mr. Marot had not been up to his usual good health of late but he was not confined to his bed either, and the turn of the worse which required him to be taken to the hospital, came quite suddenly. Surviving the deceased are his wife Mrs. Alice Marot, a son, Edward B. Marot of Monroe, and a daughter, Mrs. Clifford Carpenter of Snohomish. Mr. Marot was born in Dayton, OH October 26, 1844 (this is wrong according to pension and census and is even different then tombstone for our purpose we should use the one noted in Pension done by him), and his early childhood was spent in the state of Illinois, where at the age of 18 years he volunteered for service in the Union army! . He served two enlistments in the Civil War and following its close came west to the vicinity of Denver, CO, and followed the activity of mining, in some of the more famous camps of that time. During the Apache uprisings in Arizona and New Mexico he served on volunteer scout duty and at one time joined with other citizens in conjunction with a U.S. Army regiment to drive the Indians into Mexico. For many years he was engaged in mining, in the southwest and it was not until recent years that he came to the Puget Sound country. In 2885 he was united in marriage with Alice Bradford. Known to many Monroe people by his frequent visits here to the home of his son, Mr. Marot was highly regarded by those who knew him. He had a great regard for others and his affection was of the most unselfish kind. He was a man of great kindness of heart, and a host of friends have a tender memory for the affectionate friend who so often performed charitable acts for them. The Monitor joins! with others here in extending deepest sympathy to the relatives and f riends surviving. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
