He was the father of J.W. Howell, physical director of the Everett Young Men’s Christian association, and now acting secretary. William Howell was 72 years of age. He was a Civil war veteran, and the local G.A.R. will have charge of his funeral which will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from Challacombe’s chapel. Howell had spent most of his life in Colorado and Wyoming, in the days when that territory was the “farthest west”. He was a noted scout and hunter and took part in many Indian battles. He numbered among his close friends, Buffalo Bill, Wild Bill, and other famous Indian scouts. Besides his son, he leaves a widow, who resides in Everett, and a daughter, Mr. W.L. Graves, of Nelson, B.C., whom is expected arrive in Everett tomorrow. N.B. Challacombe is in charge of funeral arrangements. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. The G.A.R. a! nd the Womens’s Relief corps will conduct special exercises at the funeral. Howell was a member of the Forty-fifth Kentucky regiment of mounted infantry during the civil war. 1910 Spokane WA census William Howell age 64 b/KY Katie age 43 b/Eng De Etta age 22 b/COL James age 18 b/NM Wm Howell served in 45th KY Inf. Co. D and received pension for that service from the state of MO his wife Elizabeth reqest pension at the time of his death.

Mrs Ford came here with her husband John Ford, in 1877, and made this her home up to a short time ago when she moved to Seattle. She was a women with a strong personality and much loved by her friends. She leaves to mourn her loss; G.W. Ford, of South Snohomish, and D.A. Ford of Vancouver, B.C. The remains at the Bakeman Undertaking Parolors awaiting the arrival of her son from Vancouver. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Katie was the wife of a Civil War vet and the G.A.R. would have handled the funeral as they did with her husband John Ford in 1901. She is buried at the Snohomish G.A.R. cemetery.
