From time to time, I have written articles to these bulletins, sharing and hoping that someone "out there" might see my refs. and respond to them. Well, this has "paid off" several times via the rootsweb system, initially. Below is the latest example of this sort of phenomena that happens when you "play clues" or make it known that you are seeking others to share the gen. I had had some clues re this "Archibald Joel Clark and Laura Ann Saar" from many sources, including their marriage license, handwritten which I have had from when I began doing gen. back in the 1980s. A Kent, WA friend (Neely Family Pioneer family) handed it to me when he knew that I'd be interested in it as one of my Clark ancestors. I have tried over the many years to contact the ancestors whom I knew to live in northern Idaho, but w/o any responses from them. So, I "gave up", but I would leave clues by mentioning their ancestral names on the rootsweb bulletins, and it has "paid dirt" well, as can be seen below: ----- Original Message ----- From: Kytonen To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, February 19, 2005 9:00 AM Subject: Clark-Saar genealogy Hello, I recently ran across a bunch of your threads on rootsweb about your Clark family line and I'm happy to tell you that I am also a part of that line! My Clark ancestor branches off with Archibald Joel Clark and Laura Ann Saar (my great-great grandparents). Their daughter Roberta Louise Clark, or "Birdie", (my great-grandmother) married Wayne Lafayette Bolkcom. Wayne and Birdie has four children, one of which is my grandfather, Milton Bolkcom. I have quite a bit more information on Laura and Archie's ancestors as well as some first-hand accounts from her and stories from other relatives about their lives. If you're interested, just give me a shout and I'll mail them to you! Mail me back to this address if you would: [email protected] Nice talking to you--- Sincerely, Anna Kytonen * * * To Clarify - Anna goes back from Archibald Jason Clark to Jason S. Clark (Jason SQUIRE Clark) our Common Ancestor who came by ox team IN>OR over the Oregon Trail in 1847; OR>WA Territory 1865 (now Kent, WA) among the Founders of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Kent. I replied to Ann's most welcomed note, above, and she immediately sent me her line going back to the very Archibald Joel CLARK m. Laura Ann SAAR, her Grt Grt GndParents. She really filled in the gap, admirably, with data I relished - a whole branch that had been missing all these years. (Kent, WA Pioneer families) I had visited the SAAR Cemetery near Kent, WA in the '80s. I found via the late JOHN SLONIKER, bless his soul for his contributions to all of us with his undaunting Help! - I found out that Peter SAAR was not buried in the Saar Cem. in Kent that I visited but another cem. I haven't pursued Saar Gen as I have been occupied by my other lines. Anna surprised me when I learned that she was age 17 and just finishing high school so that she can strive toward her future. What a wonderful + for a girl her age to be highly interested in genealogy, but she loves researching and apparently she has taken her parents gen. and is pursuing it tenaciously. She has college as a target upon grad. from high school. We will have a ball exchanging info - but what is astounding is that she is a teen aged lady doing gen. and here I am an octagenarian wishing I had started doing gen. at her age, but the computer really does help. I used a lot of shoe learther, gasoline, and pockets full of dimes and nickles gathering my info in Seattle Pub Library,Seattle Gen Soc Library, et al, and trips to Oregon, et al trying to fit pieces of the puzzles together. I admit that I was quite successful. I can say that the Clarks, whose name derivation exposes their occupation with reading and writing over the centuries have lived up to their ancestry by leaving records to be found. (At least mine did!) Wish my SCOTT ancestry was that well recorded - this is where I am stonewalled so far. I hope they WANT TO BE FOUND, and SOON, as I am not getting any younger. Thank you Ann Kytonen, ancestral Cousin to my/our CLARK CLAN. I told her about PSRoots/WASNOHOM & I believe she is or will be aboard these sites. I'm hoping that OTHERS OUT THERE will play the CLUES of the rootsweb system and find your KIN as we have been doing, and we hope to continue to do. To my MANY FRIENDS on these bulletins - I've not forgotten ANY OF YOU but tempus fugit and I just don't get back to YOU ALL ! Good Health and Longevity for, They Want to Be Found. Keefe, you have probably discovered that her full name was Mary Louisa Morrison who married Andrew Keefe in either 1898 or 1899. She was my Great Aunt who visited us many times when I was young. She died in 30 Sep 1946 in Los Angles, CA. By the time Andrew died, the couple had moved to King Co. WA. After his death she sold her property WA and lived with her brother John in CA. Mary Keefe was a niece of Serehah (Cyrene - Matha M.) Taylor, wife of Stephen Taylor. I always thought that Mary and Andrew married in Indian Territory (later OK) but after some research recently, I now believe that Mary was visiting her Aunt Serenah when she met and married Andrew in WA state. If you are interested, I'd be happy to explain how I have reached this conclusion. If this message reaches you after all these years and you want more information, please contact me and I'll be happy to share what I know of the family.

Hello Everyone: Those of you who are working on your lines back to your 1600s American Ancestors will find the 1600s Ancestors Data Base to be of great help. I have recently posted several hundred new Ancestors to the Data Base bringing the total to over 29,000 entries both men and women. Also listed are several National Societies who have proven many of the Ancestors you will find here. There are also a few new Reference Works that contain many more lines. The entries are coded to indicate to which Society or Reference Work has at least one of their proven lines. Several of the National Societies have over 20 different lines from a single Ancestor. WHEN YOU ENTER THE 1600s ANCESTORS DATA BASE be sure to look at the top of each data page for the link that takes you to the "Data Base Information Page". There you will find the list of codes and how to use them. This is MUST reading if you are to understand the Data Base and how to use it. We are constantly updating the Data Base with Additional Ancestors and references as time permits. More work has been devoted to updating listings of the female Ancestors by going back and including marriage dates. This takes much time and we still have a lot of work to do there. You will find the 1600s Ancestor Data Base at; http://www.firstfamilies.org/db/ For those of you who are AOL members you may have trouble connecting to many pages that may come up with a message such as "Page Does Not Exist" and you should cure that by using your browser feature of Copy and Paste the URL to your browser and pressing your enter key. Everyone has free access to the Data Base and to all our posted pages. Enjoy and Happy Hunting Ryan Jackson Data Base Manager America's First Families

Good Morning, List Folks! Have you ever wondered what happens to FORMER USGenWeb Project Coordinators??? SnoCo's very own Marthe Arends is in the news (again)... Read a MOST interesting article about Miss Marthe at http://www.womansday.com/article.asp?section_id=7&article_id=9445&page_number=4 It's not really a genealogy article, but I know that Marthe's many friends in the SnoCo genealogy community will enjoy reading about her latest literary accomplishments. Regards, Marge
In my former articles, I've written about "They Want to be Found" or "They Wanna Be Found"-the genealogical phenomena of "coincidental happenings" that have happen when we are pursuing genealogical information. You walk down the stacks of a library, as I did, and the small book sticking out of the stacks, by "happenstance" proved to be the very information I had sought, and was having no success. Many of you wrote to me of your experiences with running into a source when you least expect it, and which borders on "coincidence" but it occurs more often than "concidence" The following article will enthrall you as it did me, that adds to the frequency of the "They Want to be Found" phenomena - DNA ! Be sure to read the following article, as we enter into a new era of genealogical research, that seems to be making strides, thanks to the scientists, and volunteers who are contributing to this NEW TOOL. Remember BC, (before computers) when we frantically went to libraries, research sites, slept in the back of our cars in order to invade museums, and other repositories of information. Then came computers, and now DNA ! Read On : Ref. The HERALD, Everett, WA. Date: Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 Section: Main Section, Front Page Site: http://www.heraldnet.com/about Article: Following DNA into the past EdCC class takes genealgist back further than they have ever gone By Eric Stevick, Herald Writer PIX captioned: Edmonds Community College student Lyndsey Bury (left) and Brian Hall and genealogist Carole Thul ( right ) prepare DNA samples to send to a lab in New York. In a month, they will be able to compare their DNA with other people around the world to learn more about their ancient ancestors. COMMENT: Members and contributors to the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society in Lynnwood are named in this article. One of these active members is Margaret Summitt (she' my 4th Cousin via our Clark-Michaels ancestry- Anna Michaels m. Jason S. Clark and they are my Great, great Grandparents). I liked the comment that Margaret Summitt made to the reporter, quoted as followis: "It' one of those coincidences, that was not a coincidence," Summitt said. "It was meant to be." It goes along with my contention that "They Want to be Found" and if we keep striving for information, and playing the "clues" we will become successful with our genealogy. I have "given up" many times during my pursuit, but when I lease expect it, the information "comes to me" in various ways, that never cease to amaze me over the many years of pursuit. I have the desire to participate in the DNA research. I've already submitted a vial but I would like to engage in an active DNA result. Be sure to read about the student whose DNA matched a segment from prehistoric times. Never give up on your genealogy - it's older than you'd think !!! Carroll in Snohomish * * * 30 * * *
