Thank you for several replies. What a wonderful web site you all have and such fast response as well. I found Harry & Leah BURTON in the 1920 census and of course thanks to a look up, they were also in the 1930 census for Everett, Washington. I goofed on the year of the proposed Dorothy's year of graduation; It would be approximately the years of 1933--35 for her high school graduation. Trying to locate Harry & Leah's date of death. Someone kindly sent me the year of birth for Dorothy Josephine BURTON daughter of Harry Eugene & Leah L. BURTON: July 8, 1916 in Everett. This same person sent me Leah's maiden name of LENNEX. Am hoping to contact any kin of Dorothy's if she got married and had children; would be nice if she were still alive as well; it's always possible. Thank you again Judy
If some of the railroad SS numbers are not in the SSDI, then can anyone direct me; am looking for date of death of someone who worked for railroad in State of Washington. Thank you Judy [email protected]
BURTON, Harry Eugene born March 1896 in Michigan married to Leah L. ??? He was the son of Lester L. and Nellie (Valentine) BURTON of Flint, Michigan. In 1930 census, He and his wife resided at 2615 16th St, Everett, Washington Harry was a conductor of railroad. They had a daughter Dorothy J. age 13 at time of 1900 census who was born in Washington. Please if anyone knows of this daughter and who she married, etc., we would like to know. Harry's parents met a sad death and Harry grew up in the home of his father's brother, Clarence N. BURTON and wife Anne E. in Casnovia Township, Muskegon County, Michigan. Harry had a sister Dora J. who went to live with her mother's relatives (Valentine) in Michigan. Are there any school year books for Everett where their daughter Dorothy J. BURTON would have gone to or graduated? The year of her graduation might have been 1918. Does anyone know her?? Thank you ever so much Judy (a relative of Harry's) his father was my great-great Uncle. [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])

Hello, ListFolks! Mike Sweeney (WA GenWeb) forwarded information about new online resources - 1. The Washington State Library has begun scanning and indexing historic newspapers from Washington. So far, only one title is up, The Columbian from Olympia, published Sept. 1852-Nov. 1853. Two runs of other titles are ready to go as soon as they get them loaded. The images are available online and there is a searchable index that covers date, page, article titles, article type, and - for local news - keywords, subject and personal names. You find a link to the project at the WA Secretary of State History site: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/history/ or go directly to: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/history/newspapers.aspx 2. Military records available online on the Secretary of State's webpage - the three volume set of the Soldiers of the Great War is viewable; however, it is not searchable. A researcher would need to manually page through the book. Here is the URL http://www.secstate.wa.gov/history/publications.aspx?s=5. Currently being indexed are the WWI serviceman cards and Aaberg-Case are searchable online and available from the Historical Records Search page <http://www.secstate.wa.gov/history/search.aspx>; soon images of the cards will be available online too. There are also two indexes of WWI soldiers from Spokane County also available on the Historical Records Search page - Spokane County World War I Soldiers and Spokane County WWI soldiers in the Newspaper - and the former index has images associated with the index. Regards, Marge
I was told by someone to post this note here. I am researching the following two persons (husband and wife) and after much assistance from others on another list, they suggested that I post here. I would love to get the death certificates on these two people. I am willing to pay copy & mailing costs (Or better yet - Scan them and email them to me). Is there anyone on the list who could assist me with this? I would be happy to trade for equal time in Oakland County, Michigan or any other Michigan County EXCEPT WAYNE (DETROIT). Any help out there? Thanking you in ADVANCE! Karen Krugman Munn, Edwin age: 77 died: Thurston Co. date: June 9, 1924 Cert. #: 125 Munn, Grace F. age: 67 died: Seattle date: July 23, 1930 Cert. #: 2278 ~Well Behaved Women rarely make history!~

My children's step-grandmother, Pearl Petersen, passed away on Thursday, March 10. She lived in Lynnwood. Would someone be so kind as to send me a transcription of the obit? We don't have contact with them, but I would like to add it to my children's genealogy record. Susan Sacramento Valley

Rachel died 22 Feb 1908 Washington Co, Oregon (Oregon Death Index) while Andrew died 18 Mar 1922 Portland, Multnomah Co, Oregon (Oregon Death Index) after two more marriages which both ended in divorce ("Autobiography of Miss Kitty May Ellis", copyright 2005, edited Will Johnson, privately printed.) They had two children that I know of: 1) Perry Ellis b Oct 1866 Iowa died 10 Jan 1932 Marion Co, Oregon (Oregon Death Index) married 17 Mar 1909 (Oregon Marriage Index) to Josephine R Laws b abt 1890 Illinois (1910 census) children: Roberta Ellis 1910, Evelyn Ellis 1911, Elma Ellis 1913 2) Kitty May Ellis b 6 Sep 1869 "During a Cyclone, 16 miles north of Eldora, Hardin Co, Iowa" ("Autobiography", op cit.) died 1963 in Clearview, Snohomish Co, Washington. In Sep 1879 the family moved to Tarkio, Atchison Co, Missouri. They stayed in Missouri for 3 1/2 years and in Mar 1883 moved on to Spokane Falls, Washington (state). There is or was a post office called Ellis and they are said by Kitty to have lived in that place. They did not stay in Ellis PO long and next appear in my records in 1900 Hillsboro, District 157, page 1B, Washington Co, Oregon. Rachel died in that county in 1908 but I have not yet found Andrew in the 1910 census. Kitty, Perry and his new wife however are there in Washington Co. Perry and Kitty were both committed to the Salem Mental Hospital, Salem, Marion Co, Oregon and Perry is still there in the 1920 and 1930 census. I have not found Kitty in 1920 but in 1930 she is in Portland, Multnomah Co, Oregon working as a Practical Nurse for a private family. Since this is where her father died, it's possible she is living there for that reason. Her brother however did not die until 1932. Miss Kitty May Ellis stayed in Portland until 1941 supposedly and then moved on to Clearview, Snohomish Co, Washington where she lived until her death at the age of 94. She never married and states that her father was such a bull-headed and intolerable brute that she never wanted to have any children for fear of passing on this characteristic. She wrote over a hundred notebooks that constitute her diary and I am in the long process of sorting out the interesting from the dull. Part of this has been privately published but doesn't give much details on her ancestors. The earliest known place for them is Hardin Co, Iowa but I cannot find them there in the 1870 census nor anywhere else, and cannot find them yet in the 1880. So if any of this sounds familiar or if anyone can add details from various lookups, I would appreciate that
Hello, List Folks! The program at the March 2 meeting of the SnoIsle Genealogical Society will feature a round-table presentation on Writing Your Family History, chaired by Margaret Robe Summitt. Go to http://rootsweb.com/~wasigs/indexsigs.htm for time, locality and driving directions. You can also read the March issue of The Beacon, SIGS' monthly newsletter at http://rootsweb.com/~wasigs/indexsigs.htm Two articles of interest in this issue - "Good News" and "Bad News" - Bad news first - the upcoming field trip to the Fiske Library in Seattle is limited to SIGS' and Snohomish Senior Center members only. If you are interested in such a field trip later on in the spring, do let me know ! Good news - in the message from the SIGS president (also called the Monthly Prez Mess), folks were invited to participate in an online survey re: their use of the internet in their genealogical research. I was told by the designer of this survey (a doctoral candidate in Australia) that EVERYONE can participate, not just SIGS members. More good news - The Beacon will now list other societies' monthly meeting speakers, and not just "big" workshops, etc. Regards to all Marge
