Thank you so much Darilee and Elaine, I wonder if they lived in a cave? I know they didn't, but they sure avoided being noticed I guess. I do have a picture of William standing at what I think must be the back door of the house, and they show up in the 1900 census for Anacortes, but can't find anything else other than he bought plots in Grandview Cemetery in 1903. He died around 1930. She earlier, but don't know when. I really appreciate your looking for me. Myrna

hi darilee, looking for more on my shadbolt`s.edgar, john, elizabeth, and more. thanks, and keep up the cheerful spirit, john
Hi Darilee, We corresponded a while back, about my McDonald family and you weren't able to find their grave site, but now since you have this book I thought perhaps they may be listed in there. The name is William Henry Harrison McDonald, and he and his wife Henerietta were residence of Anacortes before 1900, probably by 1890. His wife had a millenary shop and also ran a boarding house. One other name associated is Burton J. Bloxham, he married my Grandmother Myrtle Houchins McDonald (a foster child of William's), and I can't find them in the 1900 census for Skagit or Island Co. I know they were married about 1896, and he had property there in 1892, as I have a deed. Thank you so much, if this is asking to much, please don't feel obligated. Myrna Casey mybill@msn.com

No EICHINGERs living in Skagit Co that are even listed in the phone book. If you want to look for relatives, try WHATCOM co 20 min N, or Island Co which is West of here. Also, they could have moved south to Snohomish Co. That is where I would look if you can't find any pioneer history on them maybe you could find a living relative. MARIHUGH JA in the current 2000 phone book would be a good possibility to contact for family history being it is the ONLY one in the entire phone book. page 598-599 History of Skagit and Snohomish Counties Washington their People, Their Commerce and Their Recources with an outline of the early history of the State of Washington - endorsed as authentic by local committees of pioneers Published Interstate Publishing Company 1906 Reprinted by the Stillaguamish and Skagit Valley Genealogical Societies.. SILAS W. MARIHUGH, for many years a resident of Washington, and now engaged in diversified farming four miles west of Mount Vernon, was born in Lawrence County, New York, in 1845. His father, Russell Marihugh, born in Vermont, was residing in Ohio at the time of his death in 1880. Elizabeth (Lennox) Marihugh, his mother, was born in New York city, and died in 1863. Remaining at home till he reached the age of twenty-one, Silas Marihugh then answered the call of his country for volunteers, enlisting in the One Hundred and Eighty-second Ohio infantry, under Captain Roemer. Camping at Toledo for a time, the regiment was then ordered to Columbus; thence to Louisville, Lexington and Nashville. Having helped to build Fort Butler, it was about to be pressed into active warfare at that point when relieved by a colored regiment comprising fifteen hundred men, of whom only five hundred remained after the engagement. Having received an honorable discharge in September, 1865, he returned to Ohio, and located at Defiance, working on a farm until 1869. He then went to Michigan, rented a farm and remained there for three years. The following fourteen years he did teaming in Union City, Michigan, after which he again rented land for six years. Deciding then to find a home in Washington, he sold his possessions, and came to Bayview, here purchasing two lots. Thirteen months later he went to Cypress Island, still later making Bayview his home again. In 1891 he bought twenty acres of unbroken forest, beginning at once the task of clearing it preparatory to building a home. During his residence of twelve years in Bayview he purchased forty acres more of timber land, hold at the present time sixty acres, of which about twelve are cleared. He rented his present home in January, 1904, and is now giving especial attention to dairying and grain raising. His farm is well stocked, having on it six horses of excellent blood, and fifty-one head of cattle, mostly Durham. <yep this is the first paragraph> Darilee ----- Original Message ----- From: Elizabeth Montgomery <MEMSPC@prodigy.net> To: <WASKAGIT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 01, 2000 8:22 PM Subject: Re: History of Skagit and Snohomish... look ups > Hello Darilee, > How nice! A little about those big county biography books ... These big history/biography books were money makers for the company that printed them. In the 1880-1900 these were most popular in the midwest. An agent would come to town (via railroad) and solicit biographies. (like the who's who of today) Yah didn't have to buy one...but the town folks generally did...some paying for the right to have their photos added. The agent left town with lots of good honest facts and downpayments... In a short time the books were shipped (via that railroad) and the books were delivered with the rest of the payment. For some reason these books were never done in an alphabetical order.... or any order... but what is really fun is the first sentence of each biography. ie... Richard P. Minter is one of the best know real estate men and townsite promoters in the entire state, having carried several ventures of that character to a successful termination in various parts of Washington. <snip> ... John Nelson, a prosperous shingle weaver of Anacortes. <snip> ... Otto Kalso, a leading farmer of the Bay View district and a man who has won the respect and esteem of all because of his sterling qualities, is..<snip> ...Nicholas Bessner, engaged in farming three miles south of Edison, is one of the most prosperous agriculturists of that section, a man of energy and application, popular in the community because of his innate good qualities. <snip>. I am not making fun of these books...as goodness knows they are generally accurate. although I still have problems believing that one of my hubby's great uncles was actually aced out of the history books by the Wright brothers and their airplane.... If he had only a few more years and better parts and... maybe the airplane mecca would have been Knox Co NE....
