I have just come into possession of a memory book kept by my great-aunt Mabel FINCH RAWLINGS (Mrs. Jesse W.) between 1908 and about 1933. It contains notes and programs, even newspaper articles about concerts she gave and her piano accompaniment of singers, particularly a Franceska KASPAR LAWSON, at locations in D.C. and in several mid-Atlantic states. Many performers are listed. Most are female. One concert at the Willard Hotel in 1921 mentions O'DEA, GARRETT, MILLHAM, HALL, BROOKS, KRANTZ, Grace FINNEY, RICKETT, KASPAR, ROYLE, and MINOVICH AND "Mrs. HENDLEY." A "Musicale" at the Sidwells' Friends School at 1811 I Street lists: KASPAR, MINOVICH, WESTBROOK, KOONIN, BRIGHTENBURG, COWSILL. The book also lists attendees at reunions held for the MacREYNOLDS-KOEHLE Music School (1410 N Street N.W. in D.C.) Names listed in 1918 include: Helen FARRINGTON, Lewis FLEMER, Mrs. Martin MORRISON, Elsa RANER (violinist), Florence MacDOWELL, Augusta BERGMAN, Martha LINDENKOHL, Emmanuel CHAFFIOT, Frances SISSON, Dorothy DARE, Ingrid WESTESSON, Beatrice WILSON, Charlotte HARDING, Elizabeth HAYNES, Mrs. Coburn VAIL, Rebecca ROSE, Helen NASH. If you believe your D.C. area ancestor may have been trained in music, send me the name, and I will search through this little book for any mention of him/her. Sherry Simpson
