Thank you Jack - for letting us know about the wonderful D.C. death indexes offered at the FHCs - I will have to find one in my area and request the microfilm. There are so few resources available for purchase covering D.C. vital records (deaths, births, marriages, etc) that I wish it was offered in printed form - I certainly would purchase copies so I could refer to them as new names came up as I do with my other reference books. And thank you Dottie from Florida for also taking the time to alert us to the D.C. death record films available from the Latter Day Saints FHCs. Where I live there are absolutely no resources for information from the D.C./VA/MD areas. Very few "genealogy" books are available for inter-library loans - making it necessary to purchase what I can't do without or request microfilms from the various sources and begin a long wait for them to arrive. Oh how I envy researchers who live close to the large complete libraries - it would be wonderful to walk into the library and find everything you want immediately available. I appreciate the suggestion offered by D. Fox to check the SSDI but my ancestor (unfortunately) died prior to the beginning of social security. But I did find him listed a number of times on his children's applications (as father) - it's a great resource! I ordered quite a few to verify information back when they were still $7. Sincerely, Susan McIntyre
